Benacquisto at UFL

Hello,
My question is do you need to be a permanent resident to be eligible for the benacquisto scholarship? I am asking cause I am not a permanent resident and there for I am unable to fill out the FAFSA.

UF website states “Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen”.
I would call admission office to clarify.

Read Florida statute 1009.893. The primary requirement is a high school degree. If you have a degree from a US high school, you are eligible. But, I’d agree that you should call UF to confirm.

Ok. I’m not legally able to fill out FAFSA so I should still be qualified right? I keep trying to call them but they are telling me they aren’t sure either.

You do not need to fill out the FAFSA for Bright Futures. Benacquisto is run by the same agency so I’d guess the FAFSA is not required.

How are you not able to complete the FAFSA if you are an eligible non-citizen? What make you an eligible non-citizen?

For financial aid purposes, an eligible non-citizen is one of the following:•United States permanent resident holding an Alien Registration Receipt card I-551.•Conditional permanent resident with an I-151C card.•Other eligible non-citizen with an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service showing any one of the following designations: (a)Refugee; (b)Asylum Granted; (c) Indefinite Parole and/or Humanitarian Parole; or (d)Cuban-Haitian Entrant.

My son gets the Benacquisto, and we never filled out the FAFSA application. If your child becomes a NMF, you will get the Benacquisto, and the FAFSA will be irrelevant. There must be more to the story.

You don’t have to fill out FAFSA to get BF (and as I said Benac is the same agency) but the payment does go through the FA offices at the colleges, and the colleges can make you prove citizenship/legal status before releasing any aid.

We did fill out the FAFSA, so that wasn’t an issue for us, but for those who don’t the schools could have another form, like UF has the form I linked in post #4

I am a H4 without a greencard
