Benefits of UPitt Honors College for Pre-Med Students?

I am considering going to Pitt for Pre-Med, and I am in the Honors College. How helpful is it to be in the Honors College for Pre-Med students at UPitt? Also, how many Pitt grads are going to top 30 medical schools, more specifically the ones in NYC such as Columbia, Cornell, NYU, Mt. Sinai etc.?

Search previous threads where premed was discussed - think there was specific info provided. Pitt offers alot of opportunity to work with med school profs in research labs - also opportunities to shadow at hospitals. My dd was able to be
published 2x - under a PI in McGowen in radiology. though her direction is phd - she gained acceptance into top BioE phD programs given her opportunities at Pitt. Placement is determined by you not the success of previous applicants.

You do know that PItt School of Medicine is a top ten med school don’t you?

Pitt did have some departmental web pages that listed where their undergrads went to med school. It’s been years since I found some and I don’t know if those are still up to date. You might try searching around the web pages for the biological sciences and/or bio-engineering departments, etc.

D1’s roommate went to Pitt Med, but she’s now a pediatrics resident at NYU-Tisch.

@QuietType I know that Pitt has a fantastic med school, but I’ve also heard that Pitt students do not have a better record of getting in there than any other college. Thank you though

@IBreached - No, I do not know what percentage of Pitt undergrads get admitted to Pitt Med.

Your original question was what advantage does Pitt Honors provide a premed student in getting admitted to an upper tier medical school. So what are your options here? Are you evaluating Pitt versus other schools for undergrad or Pitt in general versus participation in Pitt’s UHC? My thought would be that if you are planning to attend Pitt, participation in the honors program can only be beneficial to you. UHC used to have a dedicated advising staff for pre-health majors, but I’m not sure if that’s still the case.

I can say that Pitt offers any pre-health undergrad more significant opportunities in research, internships, jobs, exposure, etc, that can’t be experienced in almost any other school. Pitt provides world-class hospitals and a med school on campus. There’s very, very few universities that can offer that.
