Benefits/Scholarship Opportunities for Pre-9/11 Children of Veterans

I recently became aware of the fact that my dad paid into the Montgomery G.I. Bill but ended up dropping out of college and not using much of any of what was available to him. After a quick search I found that, unlike the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill, the Montogomery doesn’t let you transfer funds to your immediate family. Even then, it has been over 10 years since he got out of the Marines meaning the funds are no longer available.

I wasn’t expecting to get anything because of his service but now that I’ve come into knowing that it could help in paying for college I am wondering if anyone knows of any federal or private programs that assist dependants of Marine Corps veterans. I’ve found the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation but haven’t found anything else at this point. Any help here would really be appreciated!

Call the VA. Make sure you have your Dad’s information(or even better if your Dad is alive and living nearby call together). They will be able to help you. There are lots of departments. You might also be able to find information on the VA website.
You will likely need: his dates of service, what service was he in, his DOB and his SS and address of record.

Are you in college now, or have you been accepted to the college you plan to attend? If so, check with your school’s veterans advisor for assistance.
