Benjamin Franklin Scholars.. anyone know anything?

ok... different classes*/more classes... different classes because some are offered only to bfs in that sense different, by having different wouldn't u have more classes?

i don't understand ur question

Basically, does becoming a JWS (and thus BFS) student add course loads every semester or would you be taking unique classes that replace a course you would have otherwise taken. Yes, i know, my phrasing is confusing.

well... i'm not a student there... but it is my dream school ;) and my sister is a bfs scholar so i know quite a bit about the program... basically these classes count towards general credits, but they are taught by the best professors and open only to bf scholars... so classes are small

another benefit as i stated before... is that it often allows you to bypass other requirements, basically by offering alternatives to basic graduation requirements

713.. you can arrange to overnight with a student. call up admissions and request that they set you up w/ a current student who is willing to take you in for the night. then you'll be able to experience dorm life, too! and at no charge!

i called admissions today and asked them if they could arrange an overnight for me this weekend. They laughed at me and told me overnights were not available during fling. She said security would be very tight and i probably would not be allowed to go in several places around campus. *** are they doing having information sessions and previews for potential students the friday and monday right around fling then?

yeah, theyre having penn previews both the friday and the monday around the fling. im going up on monday and am spending the night on sunday. hopefully theres still some spring fling parties going on then ;-)

i'm going to the BFS thing! still kind of in shock...

Hey guys,

Just received the letter for BFS here in London today - I don't know what to think; up until know i was sure about Duke.

I hope they can clarify it all for me on Friday 15th, as I won't be there on Monday.

Danny K

Do you guys kind of think it could be a ploy to get yield rate up? Because now it doesn't seem like it offers much except "cum laude" and you get priority with BFS classes

No i was accepted early decision and i was invited.

...and avisors to help you with your research, which is part of the program.

i also got the letter about the ben franklin scholars program and was absolutely shocked about it... i only wish i didn't have to write any more essays...

i got a letter too. what's this about essays, Harpingchic? maybe i should go read the stuff more carefully...

Maybe because the classes are more writing intensive than other classes, wishfulthinking? Either that, or Harpingchic was invited to apply or something.. because we sure don't have any essays to write (not now, at least!)

Raven! R u going on Huntsman Day? If I recall correctly, you're in AZ, same here. Hope to see you there. :)

Sorry to diverge off the post topic. Regarding the BFS, I was told to just send in the acceptance slip (JWS, in my case) and we're set and ready to go. :) No need to write any more essays, and i think that applies to both BFS and JWS.

Hey Catch!

Apparently the committee liked my nutty essay after all (I called the adcom and he knew who I was immediately) :) I can't make it to HDay, but I am going to overnight at Penn in a week or so... have fun though and tell me what you learn! :)
