Is studying abroad part of the 4 year program? Is the expense studying abroad an extra expense or it’s included in the tuition? Thank you
@iluvnaples My D got acceptance from Bentley with scholarship 10K women’s leadership and 30K presidential merit scholarship. We are comparing between IBE @ Purdue University, Krannert School of Management and Bentley. She is interested in Business finance. Please advise
- Which is better for her future career growth. How is the internship and job placement?
- How is the setup, is it too small (student to teacher ratio)?
- Are there other opportunities for financial support, like on-campus job?
Hi There.
At Bentley, the trading room is incredible. Is there a trading room at Purdue? I have no idea. At Bentley, kids who are interested in IB all partake in the BIG (Bentley Investment Group) which has been an incredible experience for my son and his friends.
WRT which school is better at placing IB, I don’t know. As a woman, I would imagine your daughter would qualify for many diversity programs in IB, which my son is not privy to.
In our experience, the students at Bentley network like crazy. They make a lot of calls etc and Bentley is placing more students at big banks and boutique banks. My son has had great internships but frankly, he has found them. Bentley will help the students with resumé and linked-in. Also, my son took a great Excel class at Bentley and then we also paid for some kind of modeling class that was held there but was a private company that held it on campus. It was excellent according to my son.
Bentley has a Bloomberg certification that the students can get. My son has friends who all have jobs in IB at big banks on Wall Street. But it was through networking that they got the jobs…I don’t think the big banks come to Bentley but I could be wrong.
As for work on campus, your daughter could apply to work in the trading room. My son worked there for a semester and liked it a lot. She could also be a tour guide etc. Not sure what work study opportunities there are as we don’t qualify for that.
I hope the above helps. I don’t know anything about Purdue. Sorry.
My son has loved his experience at Bentley and has a great opportunity this summer at a hedge fund (due to his experience from previous internship at a boutique bank, a big r/e company in NYC and other work experiences). After his internship in IB he decided it wasn’t for him and shifted gears.
Good luck. Bentley isn’t for everyone. The kids there are very focused on work/getting jobs and sports aren’t much of a thing, in spite of having a DI hockey program. That said, my son loves it.
Hi There, Appreciate your detailed response. You answered most of my queries. Thanks again!
Hi, I have one more question, How does internship look like at Bently? Do they get internship and how much do they get paid through internship?
Thanks, Rajnish
In my kid’s experiences (my oldest graduated last year), there are a few ways for the internships to happen.
My oldest went to an employer fair on campus when she was a sophomore and landed an internship with a company in metro Boston for the summer after her sophomore year. They paid for her housing for the summer as we are too far for her to commute. They paid her a reasonable hourly rate (can’t recall at the time, but it may have been $25 an hour? Somewhere in that neighborhood). They offered her a return for the next year with an increase in pay at the end of the summer. Covid hit…so that was done. But the company did make a full time offer before the end of her junior year and that is where she is employed now…and really loving it. She was a marketing major/with math and spanish minors.
My son got his first internship through family connections after his freshman year (at a company in Boston). Good pay and opportunity. Then he got a very prestigious internship on his own through Linked-in in NYC 2 summers later (covid was the outlier in summer of 2020). Oh, prior to that he co-oped at a boutique bank in Boston which is what lead to the NYC internship. His internships and co-op were due to his personal networking. He has a fantastic internship this summer. Again, this is all personal networking. The pay for his internships is excellent. His pay this summer will be on par with an internship at Google or Facebook, for reference.
There are a lot of Bentley kids who are interested in IB and are looking to promote Bentley students…my son decided he is no longer interested in IB and is pursuing another avenue, but there is a pretty strong network of kids at Bentley looking to go into IB. The Bentley Investment Group is a great thing there…Oh, my son also worked in the trading room at one point and did research for a wall street firm too.
I hope this helps? This is my own personal experience, but my children’s friends are all driven (self-selection bias?), and have done very well too. They both have friends in IB at bulge bracket banks…but it’s more effort coming from Bentley than say, Boston College since those big banks don’t go to Bentley to recruit.
I want to give you an honest account of what it’s like. Hope this helps.
thank you very much. This is so helpful.
