Berkeley Housing...

omg...so I really don't know what the difference is between all these places, besides for the fact that Stern is all female, Bowles is too medieval looking, and Unit 1 and Unit 3 are 1 block from campus. I forgot what Clark Kerr has, and Unit 2 has....

Which place would you recommend staying in? Also, is there like a gym of some sort in the Units or Clark Kerr or whatever?

Also, single, double, or triple? My dad says I should get a single since I could focus on studying and not worry about my roommate being the party animal or some stuff and bringing girls in, etc. lawl. On the other hand, I would have to step it up to make friends, I assume, since I don't have a roommate. I'm social, I guess , lawl..so I prbably could make friends....

Double...you have a roommate. Could be messy, could be a jerk, ******, whatever. Idk, what are the advantages of this? lawl

Triple..^same thing as double, I guess.

Ultiamtely, which one would you recommend?

Pretty impossible to get a single and you should not get one. Put doubles on your preferences but you might get a triple anyway. Unit 3’s the best and closest to the RSF (gym). Put the units as your preferences and stay away from the rest unless you want to be antisocial which you don’t seem like you want :).

Bowles is actually a very social place. Also it has the best room layout, since in quads the common room is separate from the bedroom, so you can have the lights on and be studying/relaxing/etc. while your roommate is in the bedroom in the dark sleeping.

All I know is that a lot of engineers go to Foothill as the engineering buildings are on the opposite side of campus from the units.

Oh yea, before anyone misleads you guys. Unit 2 is not close to any portion of campus. Don’t let anyone mislead you to think so. It takes way too long to go anywhere on campus from Unit 2.

If you’re not engineering, Unit 3 is closest to campus. This is followed by Unit 1, then Unit 2.

Units 1 and 2 are located at the far end of campus, but it they’re respectively two and four blocks south of campus. Unit 3 is located two blocks from the center of action.

Getting a room where you prefer is hard enough by itself. You will have no chance at getting a single unless there are exceptional circumstances. Plus, you’d be insane to pay the rates for a single.

With that said, each of the dorms have different vibes. What are you looking for?

Well, I want to do mcb…so idk which dorm would be best

Anyway, a single sounds appealing…but like you guys said, I might not get it. lol

I honestly don’t know what I’m looking for…just something friendly, people are nice and accepting and don’t talk trash behind each other’s back (I’m sure this is impossible to have…since a lot of people do this…godalone knows why…). Idk, I just want a friendly and nice atmosphere I guess…people help each other out in times of need, etc…

Lol thanks.

Also, do we need a bike? When I toured, I barely saw any bikes at all, so I’m assuming no?

You will not get a single unless you’re an RA or disabled. Period. No exceptions unless you get a double and your roommate never shows up.

LD classes are spread all over the place, so it doesn’t matter what your major is or how close the buildings are to which dorm.

Most social are the units. Least social is foothill, followed by Clark Kerr. Foothill, Bowles and Stern are all closest (i.e. right across the street) from the north part of campus (by Memorial Stadium), so closest to the engineering/math buildings. Units 1 and 3 are closest to the south side of Campus (Sproul).

Best dorms (imo) are the Unit 1 mini-suites – huge rooms (bigger than foothill); try for a double. Smallest dorms are any of the unit triples.

All places will have friendly people and also people who talk behind your back and are jerks. Finding the right people is the key and most likely there will be some of both on your floor, in your building, and in your classes for you to connect with.

Also, doubles are best because its the average of a single and triple (duh?). Its plenty of room, but you get a guaranteed friend unless you hate each other (which isn’t THAT common or I got lucky in my triple…). Anyways, if you just put yourself out there in the first few days and weeks when everybody is going out, you’ll be fine.

Unit 2 is NOT close to any part of campus.
The walk from Unit 2 to VLSB/Dwinelle is 20 minutes!
The walk from Unit 4 to VLSB/Dwinelle is 10 minutes!

You can get a single your sophomore or junior year rather easily, especially if you apply for a foothill single.

There’s also off-campus housing. Research the Westminister house, I saw it and loved it and am living there next year. It’s very quite and there’s a lot less people. They’re all like a family

I’m going to be part of FPF next year. Which dorms are closest to those buildings?

Unit 2 and Clark Kerr (Unit 5) are closest to FPF, but you also need to think about spring semester, so don’t pick Unit 2 or 5 just because they are close to FPF
