Berkeley Student Life

Cool website...check it out....im so hyped about going to cal!

<a href="http://www-inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/%7Ecs39j/sp02/berkeley/%5B/url%5D">http://www-inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cs39j/sp02/berkeley/</a></p>

I hope you all like granola and humid summers ;-)

Southern Californian transfers......I'll be thinking of you when I'm at the beach in Santa Monica drinking a Mocha Frappacino and studying Tennyson...

Your comments are so lame. Quit bein a hater with all you're sarcastic winks and "lols" on almost every single thread. if u wanna talk $hit....be more foward about it, at least. If your goin to UCLA, thats great, stick to those threads....Why'd you even apply to Cal if you don't like "granola and humid summers." Thats one of those lame superficial comments you always hear about Cal.."birkenstocks, granola, hairy women" WHO CARES??? get over it...

I hear these comments all the time when I tell people I'm interested in going to Berkeley...the worse, though, are....."Dont let those professors brainwash you" or "dont become a communist" I always laugh and just say "well its been consistantly ranked as the top public university of the nation and has a solid reputation....so, there must be something is going on well" I think they'd rather us be educated by FOXnews instead.

Thanks for the link, Soulrebel. I need higher res to view it, so i'm going to take a look when I get home later on.

Michelle, are you already starting UCLA / Berkeley battling? Is that really necessary? It seems rather childish, in my opinion. Many of us are very happy to be attending Cal, so try to understand that many will be a little ticked when you try to put down their choice to attend. If we wanted to go to LA we would have chosen LA.

-A

Guys... she was being playful! That's why there were winks everywhere. Really, guys, there's no need to be sensitive.

I think the last two places that should be battling against each other are UCLA and berkeley. And I certainly believe that bruinmichelle was NOT implying that UCLA was better than Cal. She merely commented, tongue-in-cheek, about how much sunnier Southern California is than Northern California, which cannot be disputed. And how near UCLA is to the beach compared to Cal. I don't see how this should offend us Cal transfers.

I was gonna make a crack about downtown LA traffic at Michelle but I didn't want to be accused of UCLA/Cal battling ;) UCLA is a terrific school, and I would never put it down. Cal is wonderful and beautiful and many other synonyms for "great," and I would be really offended if anyone puts it down. In fact, I get offended now whenever anyone puts down any other UC. And I was not offended by Michelle's comments. She poked fun at the weather here up north, and I'll be the first to complain about it as well (it's foggy all the damned time!... here at the Peninsula, at least).

Let's all lighten up, folks. There are many, many more important things that we need to stress about, such as finals. :P

Nice link, BTW, SoulRebel. I love the photos. I remember when I first went visited the campus about a year ago, I felt like even my shoes were getting smarter as I was walking through the campus ;) Sigh... I love that place. :0

U'll have time for EC like food and drinks. Non alcoholic of course :;

haha... highschoolda, i hope not! ;)

hold on - highschoolda, you're a bio major right? i talked to Merryl Owen, a transfer center officer at Cal, and she told me that if anyone asks about admission to MCB, this is what i should tell them:

1) GPA should be, as much as possible, competitive, i.e., 3.5-ish
2) complete everything in assist - one year of gen chem, one year of ochem, one year of bio, one year of calc. physics you DON'T need; physics is NOT a factor in being accepted or not.
3) if however you are pressed for time and might not be able to complete all the assist classes, CALC2/calc sequence is the class/es that you can sacrifice. NOT Ochem, NOT bio.
4) and lest you do not know (i did not know until like a month ago), MCB is not impacted. can you believe that? i was so happy when i learned that. :D

so there. hope this helps! :)

[Class]: gotta be a fun class, like "Love and marriage" or "sex for enjoyment"
[Study]: can't be tiresome to study for sexuality can it.
[Class]: so you decided to take engineering physics but you met the "engineering queen" and you guys started dating, not too bad eh?
[Study]: study while your engineering queen is massaging your back
[Sleep]: can't be that bad sleeping with your girlfriend, or can it?

can be pretty fun too at berkeley.

biochemist12 u mean the overall GPA 3.5+ or the major course GPA 3.5+???

Biochem thanks for the info.

I do not plan to apply to berkeley for several reason.

some claim u can't get into LA if u get into berk

I live close to UCLA and really wanna go there.

Very competative school

but i do have 6 friends who go there and they like the school a lot.

Huh? About 95% of the people on this board who got into Berkeley also got into UCLA. There's no truth in the "claim"

Tifania.....exactly, can't me in that number. It was what people were saying when they were waiting on Cal, after having been rejected from UCLA. Sour Southern California grapes.....lol. But take a rough poll and you'll see that most got into both, imo.

"count", that is..

yeah to be honest i never really thought there was much to that rumor. lol

But Berk is too far from LA for me, i'll proly try to get into UCLA or SD, SB as a safety

Soulrebel, Chemeng, wow......I'm sorry you took offensse, truly because none was rendered. You truly both show you have very little character to have shown such anger towards a silly comment of mine. If something as inspid as a comment on a discussion board rattles you, then you might find the rigors of Cal exponentially worse, am I right? My comment was directed towards Southern California transfers.....I had in mind a young lady who had given her SIR to Cal but wanted to change it to UCLA and I told her to enjoy Cal and not worry about UCLA. Along that same vein, I came in here and spoke. I feel silly having to justify a stupid comment for I am not in the habit of having to retract a word I say for it's usually taken well. Frankly, I love granola and have friends attending Cal now. We joke all the time about Northern Cal vs. Southern Cal all the time.

Frankly, your words were much more vicious in their intent than mine could ever be construed. Biochem, thanks for being kind, good luck to you at Cal! It is an excellent school. And I agree.....I tend not to stand for putting down of any UC for I believe they all have their strengths and are regarded so well within the state and outside, should that become an issue.

Soulrebel, Chemeng....um, frankly, if I wanted to mudsling between schools, I'd talk about the Cal/Harvard comparison, which.....um, is unnecessary. I turned down Harvard, UPenn, Columbia and NYU for English (all of which are excellent), but I am saving them for Grad. I wouldn't really condescend to compare UCLA with.....Berkeley, knowing the schools I turned down are far better in my field. I didn't want to play that card, but your vicious remarks forced me to it. Remember concentrate on those grades this semester and don't worry about what someone said in a stupid discussion board.....they dont' call it provisional for nothing. <wink wink=""></wink>

Wow, I have "little character" because you think I was angry at you? Don't you think you're being just a tad bit judgemental? I was not angry at you for your post, but I did find that could be considered offensive so I understood where the other poster was coming for and decided to comment.

Anyhow, have a nice life at UCLA. I am sure you realize that your opinion of me really makes a lick of difference in my life. :)

HA! Damn, I had no idea you were a genius, Michelle. Thank you for enlightening us about all of the much better schools you turned down. ;)

-A

Michelle, I thought Harvard, UPenn, Columbia and NYU are still in progress of reviewing transfer applications?

also chemeng1 , hope you aced your final today.

Hi, Blackdream... Thanks! I DEFINITELY aced it! YAY!! I'm out of school for almost a whole week until Orgo II starts!! :D
