To respond to the original question: Sure, it’s possible to get accepted to Berkeley under unusual circumstances. I was rejected from LA but accepted to Cal, with what ended up as a 3.35 cumulative GPA. But I had a heck of a lot of mitigating factors (including a 4.0 for my most recent 51 units, and a 3.95 for all CCC units), and some killer major-related work experience.

If you’re a “normal” applicant (with the standard ECs and work experience) with a “regular” 3.4 GPA (more B’s than A’s throughout your time at college), your chances might not be as good.

^But did you do IGETC? Or complete Berk’s General Education in any other way? If you got in without completing something that fulfulls their gen ed then your story is relevant to the OP. If not, then I think you’re just confusing 'em.

Off topic, but what are your plans for fall, Nick?

Sorry about that–yes, I did IGETC. I was speaking in broader terms about “unexpected acceptance stories.” Getting into Berkeley without your IGETC/GE is nearly impossible in most circumstances.

I’ll be working in the fall, until December 30. I just signed my contract, and it’ll be voted on next Tuesday. I even get a tidy pay increase.

Awesome! It sounds like things worked out for you pretty neatly.
