Berkeley v. NYU for S&T in NYC?

I want to double major in statistics and business(economics) in college.
Berkeley L&S
Pros:
-in state
-will be possible to graduate in 3 years instead of 4
-better stat program
Cons:
-All the way on the other side of the country (big one)
-harder to get internships

NYU Stern
Pros
-in NYC
-more opportunities
Cons
-Crazy expensive
-more competition for NYC internships among classmates
-will graduate in 4 years as opposed to 3

And, I really want to work in NYC after college but feel that Berkeley is a better school in both stat and econ. Unfortunately, it's all the way in the west coast and NYU, well, is in the financial capital. Where should i go if I'm lucky enough to get accepted into both?

PS. I lived in San Fransisco all my life and really want to work in NY.

Considering you really want to work in NYC for S&T, I would recommend NYU over Berkley. If you were indifferent between IB and S&T and between east coast and west, given your Pros, I would recommend Berkley. For NYC-specific opps, I have to recommend NYU over Berkley in this case.

Good luck and PM me if you have any other questions.

IBanker

NYU

10 char

Go to NYU-Stern if you want to work in NY.

If you are in-state for Berkeley the cost difference with NYU is enormous…

Considering Berkeley is generally considered the better school, it’s hard to argue in favor of NYU here.

If you can get into Haas, then you would have no trouble getting a job in NY. Most firms that recruit at Haas have NY offices.
Why is your other option NYU? You have to realize that a large number of people who work in S&T in NYC did not go to school in NYC.

CMU Tepper is a gem in the S&T world; a top school for quantitative trading with students getting offers from the best prop trading firms. If it’s good enough for Susquehanna and Wolverine, it should be good enough for you =p
