Hey everyone! :)
I've fortunately been accepted to Brown and Berkeley. Now I'm in the process of choosing which school to give up (yes, both of them are awesome!) and I'd like to ask for people's opinions.

I'm an international & I applied undecided to Berkeley LAS and, well, Brown's Open Curriculum since I'm not sure about what I want to do yet. I also have a feeling that Berkeley's and Brown's student bodies are somehow similar to a certain extend (maybe hippies? :P).

I’m an international student admitted to both Brown and Cal. Only thing is I’m a prospective engineering major and Cal’s much more stronger in that field…

To make it even harder I’ve got about 20k in aid from Brown. Any assistance will be rewarded with utmost gratitude. Thanks!

Meanwhile, Brown and Berkeley have comparable rankings on the USNEWS (16th and 21th, respectively)

While I know that rankings are not very reliable, I don’t understand the vast difference between the two lists. Is Berkeley more well-regarded internationally compared to Brown?

ditto AdequateRemedy. @devlos - rankings are a horrible way to decide. I should know. lots of sites are biased. Plus the criteria vary from site to site.

^ completely agree. Though sometimes I’m kinda annoyed at the fact that Brown does not receive the credits it so rightfully deserves here in my hometown because of the world university rankings, so I want to have a logic explanation to them about it.

I was admitted to both Brown and Cal last year for the class of 2013. I eventually chose Cal after committing to Brown and then withdrawing because of the distance from home, the $50,000 price tag and the general feeling of guilt of making my parents pay for such an expensive school.

Now a year later, I’m still ambivalent about my decision. Academics are certainly nothing short of amazing here. I truly love all my classes but one. The campus and weather are beautiful. All my professors are approachable, I’ve had lunch several times with one and was invited along with other classmates to the home of another. But the bureaucracy of this place SUCKS and Telebears can make a grown man CRY. I don’t hate many people, but one advisor here I almost do. And – WILL I get into my major???

If it all works out in the end, I won’t regret my decision. But if it doesn’t…well, who’s to say going to Brown would have equaled a “better” outcome, right?
