I hear horror stories of the grade deflation at Berkeley (especially engineering). How grade deflated/ inflated is the engineering departement/ Ross (Business) at U Mich? How do UCB and U Mich compare in this sense.

e.g. A 3.3+ GPA at Berkeley is considered hard to get.

Can't speak for UM, but Berkeley does not inflated grades. AT ALL. A's require undivided attention, at best. Cal's engineering dept. is EXTREMELY competitive-admissions-wise and grade-wise. As my brother says, "you can always tell who the engineering majors are-they're the ones asleep at the lunch tables." Only top students are admitted, and only top students stay admitted. Not to discourage you, but it is just very hard.

the last sentence in your post is definitely true. Getting above a 3.0 is considered a worthy achievement for many, if not most, students.

Cal and Michigan do not inflate grades. I think Cal is a little tougher when it comes to grading. However, Michigan Engineering is known for being harsh, so it really depends on the department. Neither school "deflates" grades though. That's just a myth.
