Hello,

I was wondering how the grading system is at Berkeley.
Sometimes schools have grade inflation/deflation and sometimes it's just hard to maintain a good GPA.
I was wondering how Berkeley stands. Is it really hard to maintain a good GPA?
Of course I know that if you work hard, you can maintain a good gpa and that if you slack, you can't. but just in general?

Lots of deflation here. Lots of curves in weeder courses.

It’s easy enough if you try. It’s easy to get a B if you just do all the assignments. Getting an A means a little more work.

Depends on what you mean by “good” GPA.

You can look around [National Trends in Grade Inflation, American Colleges and Universities](http://www.gradeinflation.com) and [University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu) to find average grades (which most recently were in the B to B+ range in undergraduate courses, though individual courses may have averages different from the overall average).

You could look at the link above, but to put it succinctly from an engineering student, it is not hard to get B’s and B+'s as long as do what you are told to do (which could be hard, i guess), but getting an A will require a lot more work and ingenuity and some luck, so good luck.

How is the grade inflation/deflation in humanities courses? How difficult is it to obtain a competitive GPA for a top grad school?

im interested in going into Haas. does anyone know how people’s gpas are at haas?
