Berkeley waitlist

Alright so it seems like Berkley has an all or nothing policy with their waitlist. For 2010 none were accepted, 2011 all were accepted , 2012 all were accepted , 2013 none were accepted ( apparently) I guess that all we can do now is hope for the yield rate to be lower than expected. The other kids in my school who got in have gotten into places like Dartmouth and Brown so it doesn’t seem like they will be going… Fingers crossed!

Also it seems like they waitlist only around 200 people or so every year… Is that true for this year as well?

I was wait listed for ChemE

can people on the wait list still go to cal day?

I also got waitlisted, but i’m not sure how to proceed.

waitlisted for bio sciences. dang 200 is pretty low out of 14,000 freshman student body

I got waitlisted bit do they show major that u r waitlisted? I applied for undeclared engineerig bit nothing shows on the page

I was waitlisted for CoC. #HopeforBerkeley

I got waitlisted for Berkeley, too! And it seems that more people got waitlisted for Berkeley this year?

In my school, it seems I am the only one who was wait listed. Let’s hope they take us all

@ucbalumnus, we would appreciate any insights you have regarding those wait listed to Cal for the fall. We are hoping there’s a good chance those who have opted in will be admitted?

It all depends on whether the yield is below expected. Wait lists in general do not get used unless fewer admitted students than expected matriculate. However, the small size of Berkeley wait lists meant that if they do admit from the wait list, historically they admitted all (unlike some other schools that put thousands on the wait list and may admit a few hundred from it if they do use it).

I’m wondering if the waitlist might be larger this year. I thought that previous years only waitlisted OOS students, but I’m one of 5 people waitlisted at my CA high school.

Well it doesn’t make sense that they would increase the number of people waitlisted this year since they were unable to take any off the waitlist last year?

International student here…waitlisted for EECS

Cal is my daughter’s dream school and while it’s really hard to wait, we are so thankful there’s still a chance she will be admitted! I wish there was a way to let Admissions know she would gladly start in the Spring if an opening became available! Good luck to all of you! I really hope they admit everyone who opted in! Go Bears!

According to AskMsSun, this is the first year in history Cal waitlisted instate students, so expect the list to be a lot larger.

@wdfhaxors, where did you see that?

I am also in state and in my friend group alone I know another person who was waitlisted to Berkeley. I think this year’s waitlist is a lot larger than the past year’s 200 or so. This might be more of a typical 4000 people waitlist in which only like 50 are taken :(

Also, has anyone called the admissions offices to ask about the specifics of the waitlist? Thanks

I don’t think it’s true that they only accepted out of state students the previous years. I know a friend whose sister was waitlisted two years ago (2011-2012) and she lived within California. But I’m not sure if they increased the numbers this year. I really hope not!! z.z
