wow, I am surprised so many people got waitlisted… and so did I. Anyway, it does not look like only 200 people got waitlisted…

@imnotanoob
I got that from her AskFM =O
http://■■■■■■/AskMsSun/answer/109737680443

I’m not saying it’s 100% factual, but a lot of people here seem to believe her so just decided to put it out there. Really hope I have a shot off the waitlist.

has anybody contacted their admissions office to ask how many people got waitlisted?

OMG it seems that much more people got waitlisted this year!!!

Any news on the number of waitlisted people yet ?

Question: do any of your high schools have the same “high” number of wait listed in-state California students, like Jathak posted?

I’m OOS and got waitlisted. I was really surprised because I thought I was going to be straight up rejected. I’ll try and call tomorrow or the day after to figure out the deal with the wait list.

On [this list](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/1632018-berkeley-frosh-class-of-2018-decision-summary.html), there are 14 waitlisted and 152 accepted. If we assume that College Confidential is a representative sample (which it’s not given there’s only 42 on that list who were rejected), this should mean there are ~400 on the waitlist based on last year’s acceptance number.

Wrong. The list is cumulative. You just used Ctrl+F and searched for ‘wait’. However, there are only 5 waitlisted people as per the latest updated list.

Yes I’ve also been wait listed, as well as six other students from my school. I was hoping the odds of being admitted were high due to the positive trend of wait listed students the past few year, but it appears that the waiting list has definitely expanded this year. This is a really unfortunate situation for us since it seems that the waiting list has become similar to those of other private schools where the term wait listed is synonymous to rejection

Jathak, are you from the DVHS area? If you are, then you and dvsenior’s posts are overlapping, since I’m presuming the dv in dvsenior stands for DVHS.

Does anyone other school have a high rate of waitlisted seniors?

at my school, it was only me and another senior who got wait listed. I think the best thing we can do is to contact the admissions office to get the accurate numbers

If by DVHS you mean Dougherty Valley, then yes I’m in that area, but I’m actually at Monte Vista (along with the other four people I know on the waitlist).

Has anyone approached admission office to get detailed information on waitlist? I am interested in following answers
- What is the my son’s number in the waitlist?
- Is waitlist for each major or for general admission? (You can apply to specific major OR undecided major)
- What is the history data? How many were waitlisted and how many got in from waitlist. (This gives everyone an idea although we cannot predict the future.)

i just called admissions and they said 4000 were waitlisted this year

everybody has the same rank so admission will be random.

good luck everyone

@swiftswimmer so getting admitted from the waitlist is random just like some of the regular admissions decisions appear to be random. 4.0/4.3/4.63/33 ACT/tons of APs/senior year courseload all APs and Honors/500+ hrs community service/leadership/holistic application that’s good enough for admission to UCLA = waitlist at Berkeley. Very frustrating for the many kids who have worked so hard. I guess there are just too many qualified applicants for not enough spaces. Good luck to all who choose to opt in to the waitlist; everyone will end up where they’re supposed to be!

^uhh…are you trying to brag or something? this isn’t a brag thread bro @caligirl14

I thought the Cal admissions office isn’t open until tomorrow?

Not at all @swiftswimmer. I’m just pointing out the frustration that many have already expressed on CC about admission decisions that can seem to be random. From your phone call, it sounds as if admissions from the waitlist will definitely be random. Both of these things can be frustrating - that’s all I’m saying. Sorry if I offended you; that definitely wasn’t my intent :)

So they increased the waitlist by 20 times of what it was in the previous years ?
