Also, anyone know why there were so many more people on the waitlist this year (by a magnitude of 10)?

@notcollegebound berkeley changed their waitlist policy this year. They over-admitted last year so this year they under-admitted and used the waitlist to compensate. Also they put in-state as well as OOS applicants on the list now. So they’re finally using a normal waitlist.

@dividerofzero ah gocha. thanks for the info!

No prob. They did seem to be planning to admit ~530 kids (I used their public statements and made some calculations) off the waitlist but it looks like they’re only taking around 250. Looks like their yield rate was higher than expected.

Oh yep. Just checked my portal and the decisions are up.
“After careful consideration, I am sorry that UC Berkeley is unable to offer you admission from our wait list for Fall 2014.”
I’d say they did a great job torturing hundreds and thankfully they didn’t wait to post this until June 2nd. How exciting.

@cbj950613, I’m curious to know… did you commit to another school?

@tippytoe yeah. Sorry for the late reply. I sir’ed to UCLA.

@cbj950613, UCLA! That is no small accomplishment in itself. Really great and you should be very proud. I’m sure your parents are as well. Good for you, and good luck : )

I can’t see anyone good enough to get waitlisted at Berkeley ending up at a school that’s not seriously high-quality.
