Berkeley waitlist

No. The wait list exists so that if yield is lower than expected, they can admit more from the wait list. Since they will only know the yield on May 1, they will not decide whether to admit more from the wait list until after then.

@4thedition: My guess is last year’s yield was higher than expected so they let less in, but took a bigger waitlist in case this year’s yield is lower.

I just called at 1:08PM PST and the admissions officer said that UC Berkeley did not share the information on how many applicants were on the waitlist.

Haha, that tweet is made by me @GoBears2018

There’s no way that there are 4,000 people on the waitlist. That’s absurd.

Seems absurd that there are 4,000 on the waitlist, but that’s the number that UCLA has put on their waitlist for the past 2 years. Approximately 3,000 have opted in and a very small number (120 in-state and 120 out of state) are admitted. These numbers are very different than past Berkeley waitlist stats - they usually only waitlist about 200 out of state students and it seems they’re all admitted. Who knows what will happen this year…

Just found this info in UC Berkeley website:
“I understand that for fall 2012, UC Berkeley has a wait list. Why am I not on the wait list?
The wait list is for freshman applicants who were not offered admission due to space limitations, but who are considered excellent candidates for admission, should space become available in the current admissions cycle. (Being on the wait list is not a guarantee of receiving an offer of admission at a later date.) UC Berkeley placed approximately 200 students on its wait list. Students cannot appeal for a spot on the wait list.”

But that information was based off 2012 (the link is here: https://students.berkeley.edu/myberkeley/myberkeleyapp.asp?todo=cms&id=111</a>) and so they might have changed the wait list numbers since then.

My daughter(NJ) is on the waitlist also. Her guidance counselor called admissions and they were told that 2,000 were on the waitlist.

Does anyone try appeal? I did not find the appeal section/link in the myBerkeleyApplication. Does anyone find that?! Good luck for everyone ! Hopefully we can all get in!

@lovecal‌ here is the link for appeals: Error;

My son and another classmate are wait listed. We are oos, so I’m sure they have a long waitlist this year!

i was also waitlisted!i’m an international applicant.can everyone appeal or is the option only available for those who were placed on the waitlist

@Ariel0809 Thanks! Berkeley forgot to put it up! lol

Hey guys, just wondering so if we got waitlisted and we submit our SIR to another school, can we then go back on our SIR if we find out we got off cal’s waitlist? And are waitlisted students allowed to go to berkeley’s college day?

Anyone can attend Cal Day - go and have fun there!

Anyone have new info about wait list?

Just called admissions, and they said Berkeley placed 3,000 on the waitlist this year. Last year they didn’t take any from the list because initially they offered admission to too many students. They said there’s nothing we can do at this point. They will look at our applications again after May 1st if they even can, and choose people based on residency, what other colleges you applied to (I’m guessing that means what other UC’s, if any, that you also applied to), and your general application.

@cejeduc‌ i only applied for UCs…what does that mean for me?

I can’t imagine they put 161 students on the waitlist in 2012, 0 last year and 3,000 on the waitlist this year. That doesn’t make any sense.
