Standard application PLUS 5 additional essays? Seems a bit extreme…am I misunderstanding the application?
No, you are not. The additional essays are very short. Definitely keep to the word counts, as the spaces into which you cut and paste your responses are limited. My son applied last year and he enjoyed the Berkshire essays most, and probably wrote his best responses, since they are more interesting than the SAO essays. Good luck!!
I currently attend Berkshire, and yes it is 5. I really hesitate to use the word essay though because it’s really a 4-8 sentence paragraph. Again, agreeing with @CTMom21, have fun with the short answer questions! I enjoyed completing the Berkshire application the most out of the other 7 schools I considered attending and submitted applications too. Think of things that set you apart and try and make them fun and memorable! You want the AO reading it to remember you name and essay:) If you have any questions at all about Berkshire specifically or boarding school life/applications in general, feel free to pm me:)
Thank you! This is helpful. What other schools did you apply to, and why did you choose Berkshire?
Thank you! Very helpful! Did your son end up going to Berkshire?
Hi @Summer1974, my son was accepted but chose to go to Salisbury School, right over the border. He really wanted to go to an all-boys’ school and felt very connected to Salisbury right off the bat. However, Berkshire is an extremely impressive school in many respects and seems to have some interesting programs. It was hard to say no! I think @sadieshadow can tell you more about Berkshire.
