Best Art Colleges

Hello. My daughter will be on the hunt for the best art colleges. Her specialty is Illustration, with an emphasis on Portraiture. Yes, we have looked on the US News site, but we would like some personal feedback.

She is a very social girl, very funky, fun, lots of friends. She wants to join a sorority.

She is also an excellent soccer player, and made varsity her sophomore year, so she may want to play for her school if she is deemed good enough.

She is a B average -- 3.0 - 3.2 GPA.

We are from the Northeast, near Philadelphia, however, she wants to move away.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I’m about t suggest School of Visual Art in NYC but you said your D wanna move away (i assume you mean out of state). Take a look at Academy of Art University in California. My friend is there and I think she loves it.

also look at the CC section on art majors because the various specialized schools are discusssed more there.

Have you thought about what cost you can afford? Have you run the EFC calculators to see what might be expected from your family?

Syracuse has an excellent art department – and sororities!

Towson (MD)

Arizona State(ASU) has sports, a big Greek scene, a very good art dept, and NO SNOW. (intramural soccer is popular)

http://herbergerinstitute.asu.edu/

SUNY New Paltz is known for its art department and funky student population. Woman’s sports are big too. Might be a bit of a reach with a B average but if SAT scores are good and other aspects of the application are strong, she has a shot.

Also, another advantage to studying in Tempe is its proximity to the nascent art scene in Phoenix. [Artlink Phoenix](http://www.artlinkphoenix.com/)
