I’m primarily looking for a Performance based BA in MT (or Theatre with a concentration in MT) as well as some options that are a very well rounded BA where you learn performance, tech, directing, etc. I’m applying to UNC, JMU, Saint Mary’s U of M, as well as some others and would love more recommendations as to programs similar to these!
(Bonus if a study abroad is worked into the curriculum!!)
I also am open to almost anywhere in the country but I very much enjoy the Northeast!
Marymount Manhattan offers a BA in theater with MT minor.
Is UNC the university of northern Colorado? Good BA in MT there.
Wagner college in NY offers what you want I believe.
Take a look at Muhlenberg. They offer BA but you can specialize in one or more tracks.
@bfahopeful Yes is it! I really like Marymount but I’m looking for a more traditional campus if I can find one, I should’ve specified that. I’ll look into Wagner, thank you!
Just finished a tour of SUNY Purchase. Their BFA is one of the top in the country but they also have a non-audition BA program which seems great.
Western Connecticut State University has an excellent BA Theater program and a brand new, state of the art, 8 million dollar performance space.
@marg928 my daughter planned to apply for both the BFA and BA at Purchase but ended up only finishing the app for the BA. (BFA had many unique essays to write.). BA required an acting resume uploaded. The acceptance came before Christmas. One had to be done in the common app and the other in the SUNY app if you wanted to apply to both. Not sure if it’s the same this year.
I would look at Wagner College on Staten Island. Very competitive, but it’s definitely a liberal arts program where you will learn other aspects in addition to being a very respected performance program. I’ve seen two shows there (while we were looking at schools) and both were top notch.
Don’t get too locked into the BA/BFA distinction, BTW. That’s just a label that gets applied in a very imprecise manner. Some BFAs (e.g. Pace Acting) include a very strong liberal arts component, while some BAs will have little room for anything outside of your theatre classes once you fit in a concentration.
