Best Boarding Schools

That would be nice Pretty and I hope you're correct! I think we should start a thread on all of the positive things about all of these schools. I know there are great things about every single one of them. It would be nice to read.

My top are as followed:
Andover
Choate
Exeter
SPS
Deerfeild
Brooks
Blair

does anyone know anything on Pingree?

My grandparents live 2 minutes from Pingree. I played on the fields 100 feet down the road when i go down to Joisy to visit them. Pingree is a very good day school. Very much like the Hopkins of Jersey. Although not as diverse as BS or city day schools, its very strong academically and a bit diverse.

do you mean pingry in short hills and martinsville?

I go to kent place and we're way better than them

basking ridge, nj

there is no school called pingree in basking ridge

I'm talking about Pingree in Mass, its close to Brooks. its a day school.

anyone go there?

is St. andrew's a good school? in my opinion it is... (matriculations are as good/better than Andover's and Exeters) althoguh it does not offer as much as the larger schools...

CHOATE WINS!

Choate Choate Choate, I love Choate, Choate is definitely first in my book.

But you know, that's school spirit. I love it cause it's my school! I loved it before that, too.

I also liked Exeter and Hotchkiss, but Exeter rejected me..TWICE!! and Hotchkiss waitlisted me, but only once. So i kind of have a permanent grudge. But it's okay! Choate is the sheeeet. :)
The others don't even matter...hahaha...

I think they mean Pingry in New Jersey.

I was talking about Pingree in Mass, and I would like to know anything about Berkshire School

The best boarding school is the one that prepares you the most for college and scars you the least. I'm a survivor of a top boarding school and I can guarantee you that not everyone walks away with a wonderful experience.

Thanks, Mr. Sunshine!

Which are the best? I agree it totally depends of the teenager. I told my kids that I would never 'send them away', that if they had the maturity to deal with it, then I would ‘tearfully permit them to go’. So......
1) Not going is best for some.
2) Some need a school where their skill(s) will benefit them.
3) Size is always an issue.
4) The atmospheres differ a bit.
5) Day school or boarding
6) Sports? Their sport or a new sport?
7) Competition.
8) How academic?
and lots more........
Basically there is NO BEST. There is the Best for Your teen and that varies.

OK.... now…. I went to St. Paul's, my brother went to Exeter, my Son is at St. Paul's, my nephew is at Andover, and other members of the family have been at Westminster, Lawrenceville, Brooks, and Deerfield.

I suspect what people REALLY want is what school will get them into the college they want. I think that’s BS, but hey stats are stats. If that is all you want for your teen, and if they can handle it academically, then PrepReview.com compares schools on admissions to the Ivy’s +Stamford +MIT. On that basis (and that only) the rankings for the past several years have been:
1) St. Paul’s (34%)
2) Deerfield (32%)
2) Milton (32%) (tied)
4) Groton (31%)
5) Middlesex (30%)
6) Andover (29%)
6) Exeter (29%) (tied)

Now go back, look how close it is and ask: Does it really matter? They are all great schools, because your kids are great kids. So go to prepreview.com go to .boardingschoolreview.com. But then go visit, talk to friends and when you are done with all that make sure your teen be happy. That may be a NE boarding school, a California school, one in England, or just staying home with Mom & Dad!

no matter how many numbers or 'facts' y'all present to us, exeter will remain the best school, ever, in the history of ever.
case closeeedd!

cglen,

Thanks for your insight.

ANDOVER

with first hand experience there I can't see how any other school could match up. The teachers are there every step of the way. The coaches have become your lifetime mentors. The friends share the same work ethic as you but still enjoy a little wiffle ball game on the lawn. Unlike EXETER, andover has excess to a great downtown which has a CVS, Starbucks, Bertucci's, the school's book store, etc. Don't get me wrong all the prep school's mentioned here are outstanding schools, but Andover has a 74% yield rate this year which means everyone still picking Andover.

"Excess to a...CVS".

How can any school compete with that?

Andover wins. Thread closed.

Foul on fun is fun for "excessive" use of sarcasm! LOL

I'm more impressed that Andover students have excess to the school's bookstore. It's the most revolutionary development since Harkness.

But here's why the debate remains open: Considering the claim that "everyone is still picking Andover," I'm a little disturbed by the concluding point that as many as 26% of its accepted students who didn't pick Andover this year aren't even human. What kind of crater-holed sieve are they using in Admissions anyway?
