Best Boarding Schools

toadstool - great example of how dangerous a little information is. I know several current students at Deerfield. Virtually no truth in what you say. Athletics are important, but estimates on practice times way off, none of them have had their teeth fixed or plastic surgery, yes there is a dress code, but kids can wear shorts and flip flops, never heard of any hazing, there is study hall from 7:45 to 9:45 (or so)....but I tire...the key thing about Deerfield is the amazing sense of community. Prospective students should not be put off by toadstool....give it a shot.

^ Are you kidding? Never heard of hazing?

YOu know on the first day it snows, every freshmen brace themselves to be beat up by some serious amount of snow from upperclassmen? Mostly the "popular" kids get hit by them, so it's more like an "honor" thing. But nevertheless you get scared ****less and people don't wanna walk outside. Did your friends never tell you about that?

Well I'd give this Cindy the benefit of the doubt. Her daughter sounds like one of those very rare genius - ever heard of a 12 year old going to college? If that's true good for her, but my point is if she's that marvelous why bother? Stay in her current school for another year she could directly go to a liberal arts school of her choice, better than any of these prep schools. The other thing that puzzles me is that she mentioned that she was looking for merit-based scholarship instead of need-based. Is that an honor thing, or are they not qualified for need-based aid? You are disabled and you have 7 kids, if still not qualified for need-based aid. Your must have SUPER RICH husband. Again, good for you.

Cindy posted another thread about her daughter. <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-chances/570350-best-boarding-schools-help-special-case.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-chances/570350-best-boarding-schools-help-special-case.html</a></p>

hazing was a major issue back when i attended boarding school (but no one openly talked about it) -- i've heard its gotten much better now.

Hi! I have applied to Milton, St.Pauls, and Hotchkiss. I know St.Pauls doesnt have sailing but i think sailing is a priority. Does anyone know anything about these schools or about sailing here. I am waiting for decision letters so any tips about any schools would be great.

1: St. paul's
2: exeter
3: andover
4: hotchkiss
5: deerfield

i don't see why every1 thinks choate is btr than sps, IT'S NOT choate is stinky and poopoo-full

.. poopoo-full? >_>

i also highly doubt choate is stinky, either.
both are great schools, lool.. :/

(and for the record, most people think higher of SPS)

exeter stinks...they only except geeks and nerds

oh, i remember u, lol

Lol mehkins that isn't true, but it made me laugh.

Maybe mehkins is a little jealous he didn't get into Exeter, no?

idk amazingness, how tf should i know? i'm just sour cuz i got rejected by exeter andover and choate....only deerfield, hotchkiss and sps took me in, as if i were a lost child wondering around a mystical forest

and wow, y would i be jealous? exeter accepts kids w/ like 99 percentile

OH YEA, I'D DEFINETLY LIKE TO SPEND 30 HOURS A DAY (only 24 in a day) STUDYING FOR THE SSATS, YEA, I'D LOVE THAT

I studied for the SSATs by taking one practice test, which maybe took me 2 hours in all. I got a 96 and was accepted by Exeter...

lol, i'm just teasing you

unlike some of you, i don't have super raw natural talent...i only have raw natural talent
i got 86, way to make me feel bad

in fact, i studied a lot of words for the ssats.
wow, thanks guys. i-i am about to literally cry, wow, thx alot

sadly, no....
my gpa is a 3.74, lol
but i'm in two honors classes that aren't weighted, WHAT GIVES?!?

still
how can ANYBODY not study and beat 95% of all other kids???
like, seriouslly, my school is full of many talented kids and the highest score in the grade was an 86% (mine)......like, honestly, what's ur secret?

Yeah, my honors classes aren't weighted either which really sucks.

Kids, just so you know - I tried to get the "weight" from PEATeacher for you but failed, so good luck! :) kidding kidding, but I feel your pain.
