I’m going to take the math 2 test on August 24. I’ve heard good reviews about multiple books, ex. Princeton Review, Barrons, and the official subject test study guide. My parents said I could only get one, so I wanted your opinions on which book is the best.
I would definitely buy the official study guide for Math 2, not for the content, but for the four real tests. I went with Barrons because it has a reputation for being harder than the actual test, so if you are looking to be the best prepared I would go with that one.
I agree with both of the above. When I researched the same for my D, who took it in May, I found these same two. We used them, and they were very helpful, mostly for the practice tests.
To study topics you may not have learned in school, Khan is very helpful. She hadn’t covered matrices or parametric equations and Khan videos helped cover both in a couple of hours.
If you really only get one, I’d go with Barron’s - just realize the tests are 30-50 points harder than the official/real tests
You can get used copies of both books for under $20 total on Ebay, if that’s the issue. There are lots of copies that become available every June. Just be sure to get the current (13th) or previous (12th) of Barron’s - there are lots of older copies out there and it’s not worth saving a couple of dollars for them. More of the 13th edition will probably show up in the next week or two…
I bought several SAT Math 2 books, but both my sons mainly settled on using Kaplan. We liked that their scores on the Kaplan practice tests turned out to be lower than what they actually scored on the real test.
From my experience tutoring, I would agree to start with the official guide and Barrons. If you want to do more work, I would recommend Dr. Chung’s and Dr. Jiang’s, which is very comprehensive. Kaplan, Princeton Review, etc have realistic material, where the tests in the books I recommend are harder.
