Hey guys,
I’m planning to read as much as I can over this summer break! What would be the best books to read to prepare myself for my next years in high school (I just finished 9th grade) and standardized tests? I really didn’t read separate from my school books. I was always in the highest reading/english classes but I’d like to improve my vocabulary and knowledge on literature in general.
Thanks!
If you are planning to study for the SAT/ACT for the coming years, I know a few books that have tips, information about the tests, and practice tests that you may take to your own liking. I have Princeton Review for the SAT and ACT and those are great to get started on. I use Barron’s for SAT Subject Tests (I believe they have books for the regular SAT and ACT as well), which is helpful because the practice tests are harder than how the real test will be. I also have the big blue CollegeBoard SAT book which is the closest you can get to practice tests that are similar to the real SAT. Hope that helps! Good for you for starting studying earlier
Classics like Fahrenheit 451, 1984, and Brave New World (although the last two are somewhat… inappropriate, just warning you) are always great, and they’re really easy to read. The Lord of the Rings is good if you can get through it (farthest I’ve gotten is 3/4 way through the second book). I don’t particularly care for Tolkien’s writing style, though.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Just a good book. Studying vocab is overrated.
Thanks everyone. Ill definitely take a look!
maybe this won’t help with SAT/ACT prep, but one of the best books I’ve read is Looking For Alaska, by John Green. It’s his best book, and will certainly wrench some feels. Check it out.
Dear Atharva,
Thanks! Ill check that out too!
