I agree about not putting much stock in Parcment comparisons. While Michigan’s campus is not one of the most beautiful, it is easily one of the most impressive. Still for academics, the major reason why most students attend a university, Michigan is definitely a tier or two up on IU.

Take a look at Miami University of Ohio. Excellent undergrad Farmer School of Business (all the others above are better for MBA). Excellent financial aid for out of state students. Pretty campus, and smaller than the others except ND. See this link: http://miamioh.edu/admission/merit-grid/index.html

For what it is worth, Mami does not “superscore” the ACT but does do so for the SAT (same policy as ND). Recommend you take the SAT. Many people do better on it than the ACT.

“Michigan is definitely a tier or two up on IU”
I think you’ve got that backwards.

LOL, This is too easy

For example:
2014 Bloomberg BusinessWeek Best Undergrad Business Schools:

IU Kelley rose to 8th
UMich Ross fell to 12th

IU Jacobs Music - 4
UMich Music - 14

IU SPEA - 2 (ahead of Harvard)
UMich Ford - 12

I’m sure there’s something UMich is better at than IU, but I haven’t the time to find it.

Michigan can be quite generous to OOS students with little family income and assets. Check out this webpage to get some idea:

http://www.finaid.umich.edu/TopNav/AboutUMFinancialAid/SampleAidPackages.aspx

Scroll down to OOS family profiles. There is no guarantee that UMich will be this generous with your family, but I think it’s worth a try. You could speak to the AO or FAO about your family’s income and assets and whether there’s a chance that with a 29 you could get aid.

Miami’s Farmer is #23.

U.Michigan-Ross (#8) and IU-Kelley (#15) switch roles for MBA. Both are outstanding, and cannot go wrong with either one. Personally, I like the IU campus way more than U.Michigan.

The OP loves Michigan and will apply, no doubt, and should do so. Needs to make the final choice based on money.

Yeah I checked their financial aid packages…. overall I should have to pay no higher than 9k to attend their institution due to my circumstances, so I’m fairly happy! @jkeil911

Overall, I prefer Umich to IU, Umich is overall more prestigious and their business school facility is top notch, and they have a top 4 finance program. My only concern with that school is I won’t be a preferred admit, while I qualify and should receive direct admit at IU so I would be taking a risk going to Umich hypothetically speaking, should I get accepted there.

“Overall, I prefer Umich to IU, Umich is overall more prestigious…”

Of course you do carlsandburgsr. :-)

Any ranking that doesn’t have Wharton at the top for undergraduate is suspect.

@rjkofnovi, ru stroking out on us? Wharton isn’t in Ann Arbor >:)

^^^I am realistic jkeil911. I only comment on those who are not.

Prestige, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

Any top-20 school on any list will serve most people just fine. The IBanking snobs in Boston and NYC may only hire from certain schools, but the other 99.9% of the jobs are still available to everyone from a good school.

carlsandburgsr - IMHO, Any undergraduate business program that makes you qualify later rather than direct-admit you now based on great stats is behind the times and not worth the risk.

Freshman adjustment pressure is real and no time to be adding the GPA pressure of trying to get into an undergrad B-school.

lol

hey guys, I wanted to update you with my applications

I was considering Babson and NYU, but unfortunately it’s to far of a distance to travel for me to go to college there. @Wheatie2019

congratulations, OP, you’ve done well.
