Best Calculator for AP Calculus AB

For the class and the exam, what do you suggest? I have had a TI-84 Plus for two years now and I'm very comfortable with it, but I noticed Calculus wasn't one of its recommended topics at its display in Staples. I'm considering upgrading, but would it be fine to stay as is? If I do upgrade, what should I get?

TI-84 Plus is fine for Calc 1. You don’t even do that much with it anyway - you stop using numbers after awhile. But if you plan on taking further math classes, perhaps TI-89 would be a good investment.

A TI-84 is fine, but the TI-89, TI-NSpire, and TI-NSpire CAS/CX calculators easily outperform the 84. I used my TI-NSpire when i took Calc AB and BC and it was totally fine.

Got a 5 with my ti 84 plus. Don’t worry about getting a new/better calculator.

Ti-89 all the way.
However, if you already know how to use your calculator, you might be better off with an 84

TI-Nspire CX! This calculator saves up a lot of time plugging all sorts of conditions that TI-84 requires. However, I think you are fine with TI-84 as long as you know how to perform it.

I’m using the TI-84 I bought for Precalc.

TI-Nspire is awesome! But TI-84 will do.

^^ I’m using the TI-Nspire atm. My school requires the TI-84 if you haven’t already invested in a graphing calculator.

I would go with the TI-89. It is very powerful and outperforms the TI-84 SE by a landslide. The TI-89 is a Math/Engineering Superpower while the TI-84 SE is a modest calculator for a wider variety of subjects. However, you could get these apps on the TI-89 from ticalc.org. So if you’re looking for a powerful calculator…TI-89 ALL THE WAY!!! (Yes, I do have a TI-89 Titanium).

what’s in the 89 that’s not in the ti84

It has a CAS system that allows it to solve problems, and it has more programs I think.
