Yeah, I'm taking Pre-Cal this year and it's time I go calculator shopping. Which one do you guys recommend as the best one, considering I'll be taking AP calc (AB and BC) next year and following year the IB Math Methods Exam..? (wouldn't wanna have to buy more than 1 calculator) Thanks guys, I really don't know anything about calculators.

I think the TI-84 Silver Edition should be good for all those classes/exams.

I have a TI-84 plus. It works well, and you’re allowed to use it during standardized tests. And as a whole, I’d go with a TI calculator because (at least in my school) the math teachers don’t know about the other brands like Casio, so they couldn’t help students with calculator issues.

Personally, I would recommend the 84+ SE (Silver Edition) over the 84+. The SE has some pretty nifty pre-loaded programs that I’ve found useful in math and Chem (simultaneous equation solver, sig fig calculator :), units converter, etc.)

Well, thanks to all the input I’ve decided that the T.I 84 + Silver Edition is the clear choice.

Get a ti-92, if you develop the skills with pre-calc and learn to manage the calculator you will be unstoppable later on. It is by far better than the ti-84 SE. (I have both)

Ti-89 is the BEST calculator for AP Calc. It can integrate and derive.

Plus, it’s legal for the AP tests.

It can also do simultaneous equations, solve for variables, factor, expand, and SO much more.

Hey guys im kinda in the same situation as the OP:

when i was a freshman in Geometry Honors i bought a TI-84 plus Silver Edition and it has worked great until Precalculus Honors. This year i have just started AP Calculus BC and I am wondering whether or not I should buy a TI-89 or not.

Little background about me: I am going to go to college as a Biology- related major with the intent on going to medical school. In I pass the AP Calc test with a 3 or better In college Ill only have to take 1 semester of Multivariable Calculus. As for the physics it will be Trig- Based not Calculus based as i am a biology major and 75% of the schools on my college list offer Trig-based Calc in lieu of the Physics requirements. So unlikely ill use the TI-89 in a Physics class

So basically will it be worth it to by a TI-89 if im only going to use it just for Calculus BC and 1 semester of Multivariable Calc?

Also can anyone give me an example from the below link. In the Calculator allowed MC and FRQ of the AP Calculus test in which a TI- 84 would not be helpful and how the TI-89would help me solve that problem(s).
