best campus?

Well, I never new there was another Monadnock. I also thought you had made an error, but it wouldn’t have mattered because I am certain you can see the VT mountains as well. You can probably see Mt. Washington on a clear day.

I guess my favorite campus is also NMH. The Northfield campus definitely possesses the most architectural beauty (in my eyes), but for overall aesthetic beauty, it is the Mt. Hermon campus. True, they do have two or three ugly 70’s buildings, but who doesn’t? And the majority are beautiful including the new Rhodes Arts Center. We have been to pretty much all of the New England prep schools time and again (since we live here and two sons have attended). St. Paul’s never really did it for me, nor Exeter as it is too spread out and incorporated into the town (which is old and charming). Andover is too college-like for my taste. Deerfield is also beautiful (I think I am just partial to the CT River Valley). I thought Tabor was hideous (sorry, Tabor fans).

St. George’s hands down. C’mon, you have to admit it, coupled with the fact it is within walking distance into Newport.

@keylyme: I wouldn’t call Tabor “hideous”, but rather “distinctive”. It evokes a very attractive coastal Nantucket resort to me (with some modern buildings), less so the “old bricks & ivy” of a traditional New England prep school. That may be the reason that the white clapboard schools like Proctor and Brooks failed to catch my eye. We’re simply talking about the appearances of campuses in this thread; Tabor (re: academics & sports/activities) was one of my son’s favorite schools on his visits.

^That’s an interesting comment about the Tabor. I really wanted my son to apply there. I found the setting next to the water lovely. He, on the other hand, took a walk around campus and said no. Oh well.

Vahmontah, maybe I was too harsh. It was, after all, a gloomy day when we were there and I am partial to the traditional prep school look of “old bricks and Ivy”. I did grow up near the Maine coast, though, and did not even find the coastal area as aesthetically pleasing as I was accustomed to. Just not my cup of tea, I guess.

I have to agree with burb parent. All of the bs campuses that I visited for interviews appealed to me in some way accept for Peddie. Blair and Hotchkiss both had beautiful surroundings, Lawrenceville’s dorms and library, Loomis’s quad, Taft’s amazing architecture throughout the campus, but Peddie just didn’t appeal to me. Maybe because everything about it felt so modern which is not like a traditional prep school. It doesn’t look bad on paper, but I like burb parent just can’t pinpoint what I exactly didn’t like about it. No offense to Peddie students because Peddie is a great school.
