Best CCC Transfer Chances? (+financial aid help).

Hi,
I was just wondering which community colleges have the best transfer programs?
I want to transfer to UC Davis since I was waitlisted. Or should I go to one of the CSU’s that accepted me? then transfer… I am just scared that I will be stuck there for too long. Also, will I even be able to get my bachelors from Davis in 2 years after the 2 years at the ccc?
Sorry I have a lot of questions, I just don’t know how all of this works and I would like to explore all of my chances now.
(however, it is upsetting that I can not use my CAL Grant for a CCC) How will I be able to pay for college then? Will FAFSA still help?

Use http://www.assist.org to check which CCs have the best coverage of courses you need for your major at your target UCs and CSUs. The better the coverage, the fewer the catch up courses you would need after transfer. Needing lots of catch up courses could delay graduation.

http://www.csac.ca.gov/doc.asp?id=1372 indicates that if you receive Cal Grant A but go to a CC, it is held in reserve, but CC fees are waived. You may use Cal Grant B money to pay for books and such, or save it for after transfer.

Transferring to a UC depends on your transfer coursework and grades. It’s not based on biding your time for 2 years. Some people take longer to fulfill their GE and major prerequisites/ requirements. Any CC will give you an opportunity to do well and transfer. Davis does still have TAG. Look into that.

Why would you want to use your limited (timed) Cal Grant funds for a CC? It’s hundreds (dollars) at the CCs, vs. thousands at the UCs and CSUs, then your Calgrant A/B runs out.

The CALgrants pay for the tuition and fees at the UCs and, for the CSUs cover for tuition and R&B. If you were to use your Calgrant funds for a CC you would run out of money at the university level.

Aunt bea-- wait could you elaborate a bit more on the cal grant funds… I’m kind of confused right now. (Thank you!!)
