Hi, I got into Brown undergrad and am wondering what cell carriers have good coverage at Brown? I currently use AT&T and an thinking about switching to T-mobile. Thanks.

Same question! My parents are getting me an iPhone for a graduation present. AT %T or T mobile? Or Verizon anybody?

unless it’s changed in the last couple years, when I was there from 05-09, living in PVD from 09-10 and even when I was on campus again for commencement in 2011, it was AT&T hands down.

My son has Sprint. It may not be the best, but it’s been highly reliable in Providence, much more so than when he’s home in Chicago.

If you want something affordable, checkout Ting.

Verizon has been very reliable for me, even for 3G all over. No issues.

At Brown you are up on a hill (better reception) in a small city. I’d guess you won’t go wrong simply seeking the cheapest plan you can find.

Does 4G LTE work in Providence? Or are only 3G signals received… just wondering

My phone doesn’t support 4G LTE, but I think it probably is available in Providence. You also have wifi all over the Brown campus, so I don’t end up using that much data on my phone.

Does anybody know T-mobile in particular? That’s more affordable than AT&T for me, but if it has spotty coverage I obviously won’t be able to use it.

Does anyone know how well Sprint works? I need to know whether I should switch cell carriers before September…

the last time I was on campus with sprint was 2008, but from 2005-2008, Sprint was AWFUL. You should hear from someone more recent, but if it hasn’t changed you definitely should.

@student, I was in Providence last autumn (for a day - not a great sample, but…) and Tmo worked fine for me. I was easily able to access the internet.

Sprint is fine. Better in Providence than in Chicago at present (supposedly upgrades are in progress here).

I wouldn’t suggest for anyone to change their carrier only over worries about service. If it does become necessary a few months in, all the major carriers have offices either on Thayer or downtown (or both) and it’s simple enough to do.
