What is the best cell phone service at Harvard? Should I go with ATT or Verizon?

it’s a metropolitan area, everything works, even tmobile

Verizon works absolutely everywhere, but like seachen said, it’s a metropolitan area so all service providers will work well.

if you have a choice, verizon

So even for inside buildings, any provider will do?

There are some people who have reported that cell service in and around the Quad houses is spotty- has anyone else had that experience?

My son uses verizon. We still have him on our family plan. He’s never had any problems

Thanks G101, it’s reassuring to know that area is covered well.

AT&T and TMobile don’t have good reception in the quad. Verizon is probably your best bet.

Go with Verizon. I live in the quad and AT&T and T Mobile don’t work, so my roommate’s iphone is a very expensive paperweight in our room. With that said, AT&T and Harvard are working together to put a tower to improve cell phone reception for AT&T in the Quad next September. Will this actually happen? Who knows… I wouldn’t risk it.

hows sprint there?

I think it’s also spotty, but I’m unsure. The only service I know of that works all the time is Verizon, but if you’re willing to put in the effort, you can find pockets of areas in the Quad where they all get service. Just not necessarily in your room.

That’s the question we asked when D went off to Harvard 5 years ago. The answer then was Verizon. She could get reception both in and out of buildings.

What kind of verizon plan is the best (and cheapest)? prepaid?

Verizon is the best - works everywhere. My friends on other carriers, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile, complain about their service in the quad. Having said that, I don’t live in the quad and I’m on AT&T which works perfectly around the yard, the square, and the river houses.

I can echo the recommendation for Verizon. My son (Verizon) has never had a problem. I’ve never had a problem (I use Verizon) when visiting him. My husband, who uses AT&T has had difficulty there.

2013 bump . any difference in iphone cellular coverage at harvard? thank you for ssp 2013

T-Mobile is still pretty bad. I’ve never had a problem with Verizon, and I haven’t heard about the other major carriers.

Thanks, bbccpp, for this bump. Anyone know about AT&T service at Harvard in 2013? Did AT&T put another tower near the Quad? How about coverage at the boathouses? Is AT&T coverage still okay in the yard and river dorms?
