Just wanted to report that I had great reception at various locations on the UCLA campus with T-Mobile.

As for area codes, you might want to consider switching to a local area code so those folks, e.g., UCLA fac/staff or prospective employers, who have land lines won't incur long distance charges.

I had T-Mobile at UCLA years ago, and it used to be AWFUL. Then I woke up one day and found out that I got full bars (this was in Saxon.) What a joyful experience that was.

i cant really recommend any of verizons phones. i hate the phones with their standard verizon UI. which rules out basically all their non PDA phones. razrs are so played out. chocolates are annoying with their touch controls. i suppose the moto Q is alright...

I had T-Mobile a month ago, and I would never get reception in the CS24/50/76 rooms which was sometimes convenient since I didn't have to worry about my phone going off in class. Then, I switched to Verizon, which gets better reception, though it cut out a couple times in PAB

everyone has their dead spots. cingular and tmo have weak signals in the CS lecture halls. tmo is non existent in de neve too (at leat the dining hall). verizon is weak in PAB. it all depends on your phone too. my sony ericsson (on cingular) gets reception in the CS lecture halls. all my old phones didnt.

cingular... yah dining hall sucks. but i live in birch and it works (mostly) fine.
last summer for orientation, rieber vista = crouch by the window. move a foot away and it would die.
hates cingular

nah my phone's pretty good... samsung... yah i'd go between 2 bars and none, and if i wanted to have a conversation lasting over a minute i had to be by the window.
sigh
can anyone else reflect on cingular in rieber vista/terrace? i'd hate to have to rule them out based on phone service... but it'd be hella annoying to have my phone calls dropped all the time.

uh... haven't thought of that... interesting idea. but i'm too cheap xD
dangit, and i thought samsung was far better than nokia... i'd had a nokia before, and so had my mom, and they sucked... but i guess it more that the phone was physically annoying/bad, not the reception.
next phone: sony ericsson!!! :)

Your low reception on Cingular's network is probably the fault of your phone. You need to make sure you get a quad band phone and you'll see significant changes in the amount of bars you have. My friend has a quad band phone and gets reception in De neve Dining hall and has constant 5 bars at Sunset.

I have Tmobile and I have 2-3 bars in Sunset. Tmobile doesn't use the 850 band so my quad band phone doesn't get to take advantage of it. Doesn't really matter to me. Even when I have 1 bar, the calls are still clear so thats all that matters to me.

If you are buying Nokia phones directly from the cell phone company (Cingular official store), you shouldn't be surprised that your phone sucks. Pretty much any phone you buy directly from the cell phone carrier sucks. The only good cell I can think of that you can get from an official store is Cingular's SE W810.

I have sprint and those who know me always complain that I usually have impeccable service in the dorms, dining halls, etc. I really only have problems in young hall, uh boelter maybe.
