I’m pretty sure there was a thread like this before but I’m too lazy to dig it up. To current Brown students, what are some classes that you recommend everybody take during some point while at Brown (in particular, what are the best first-year classes)?

TA 3, PL 08, PS 11... some of the best classes at brown... i took them all first semester.. what a semester that was..

PY55 (Introduction to Sleep) -- not too hard, but I learned a lot and it changed my life!
Econ 11 (Principles of Economics) -- a great class to take even if you're not interested in the social sciences at all. Take it second semester with Prof Serrano, because he's a great lecturer.
Neuro 1 -- lots of people take this class. It's supposed to be pretty challenging but a lot of fun if you're interested in the material.
PS 22 (City Politics) -- a big class but the prof is supposed to be amazing.

i think taking a first year seminar is also a really good idea. I took CL21-Death in Ancient Greece, it was awesome.

Try and get into EL18, into to creative nonfiction, but be sure to shop the different sections and find a prof that fits you since they all teach the class a little differently.

Ph 128

if you're the science type, BN1, BIO 20
there's also a great freshman seminar taught by nobel laureate Leon Cooper (physics) and famous playwright Oscar Eustis on the play Coppenhagen

CL112: if you can get into this CAP course, do it, because you'll get arguably the most fantastic adviser at Brown and a good course to boot.

I second the fsem.

Also, anything by Prof. Neumann. I hear HA85: Modern Architecture is the best of his courses, but that they're all good.

Seconded.
PL0008 - Existentialism with Professor Reginster is an amazingly interesting class. Highly recommended.
