Why does New College provide the best education in Florida? Would you say you are getting a better education than University of Florida students? Opinions wanted

It's hard to compare UF and NCF; they are very different.

For my D's major, NCF has an outstanding program as it does in most traditional liberal arts majors. The same major at UF is not nearly as strong. However, many programs are good at UF and if a student doesn't know what they want to study or isn't interested in grad school, UF may be a better option. If a student is interested in applying to graduate, law or medical school, NCF does an excellent preparing them for top programs.

I have been very impressed by the quality of the professors and work my D and her friends are doing. Students, at least my D's friends, tend to be very intellectual and politically active. Although there are no grades, students must work hard to meet professor/advisor expectations to satisfy academic contracts. That is what separates NCF from other FL schools, is that students have the opportunity to build relationships with professors. That, and the completion of a thesis for graduation, provides NCF students an edge in applications for grad school.

While NCF is a very small school, there are many clubs and activities available to students…but nothing like UF with sports, Greek life, etc. I think this is where fit matters, and NCF is not for everyone. It is a free-spirited and accepting, diverse student population.

At least for my D, I would say the education she’s getting at NCF is superior to UF…but NCF suits her very well and she’s very focused, knows what she wants to study.
