Best college pranks

Just ran across this. Forgive me if this is GBPH. Some are well known.

Here are a few:

It seems to me that the best of all time has to be the MIT hack where they disassembled a Cambridge Police car and reassembled it on the Dome, complete with remote-controled flashing lights and siren, and a donut-eating mannequin dressed in uniform.

I loved that prank, Driver!

http://hacks.mit.edu/

The MIT housing hack was one of the funniest things I ever heard about. They sent out letters with ridiculous housing assignments (full list here).

Sorry...but the best college prank was actually done to ME when I was a freshman. My floormates moved EVERYTHING from my room outside...and I mean everything..desk, bed, chair, rugs, linens, clothes, toiletries...everything. They assembled it outside on the lawn behind my dorm. Somehow they managed to accomplish it while I was serving dinner in the dining hall (my job). I still marvel at the planning they must have done to accomplish this in less than 2 hours time. It was unbelievable. It was a VERY small college, and everyone on campus knew about this except ME. When I returned from work, and walked into my room...it was empty. I looked out the window and not only was every thing there...but every student on campus was there to watch. It was hilarious.

Thanks for that link, Marite. Here's the complete story: http://hacks.mit.edu/Hacks/by_year/1994/cp_car/

I also enjoyed seeing the lovingly-cared-for "smoot" measurements of the Mass.Ave. bridge over the Charles River while jogging there last month. That has to go back to the '60s, I think. Some MIT upperclassmen measured (and marked) the bridge using a freshman named Smoot as their measuring device.

We pulled a good one while I was an Ohio State undergrad. Our dorm floor had several singles, one occupied by an astronomy grad student who was rarely in his room before 7pm. Everyone on the floor scrounged as many Lanterns(daily student newspaper) as possible for a few weeks. When we had enough we coaxed the maid(yep, we had a maid who made our beds every day)Ruthie to unlock his door while we filled it up, floor to ceiling, with wadded up papers.

We hung around the floor lounge until he finally arrived and waited in anticipation for his reaction which was priceless. On opening his door, he calmly asked, "Anyone have a match?"

Next he said, "Somebody get an empty elevator."(we were on the 7th floor) When it arrived, we stuffed all the papers into in, closed the door and pushed the down button." The next morning the dorm staff was none too happy, but Ruth never gave us up!

And another. I worked at IBM summers and on one job use a super glue called Eastman 910. It had an expy date and my boss gave me one which had expired.

The first prank was gluing a bunk bed in our dorm to the linoleum floor. Ruth came in and having trouble moving the bed asked for help. We were laughing heartedly but when we tried to move it, the bed popped out of the 2 coasters glued to the floor but they didnt move. We were a bit concerned but we were able to dislodge them by kicking them free.

We next invaded the dining hall where we glued the salt and pepper shakers to one table. We got quite a few Candid Camera type laughs as people tried unsuccessfully to grab them. Unfortunately next afternoon, the table was gone with the 6 chairs stacked neatly in place.

Yale prank on Harvard --

http://www.yaledailynews.com/article.asp?AID=27506

Bizy-this was a knock off of a similar prank by Cal Tech
http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/pranks/rosebowl.html

The Cal Tech prank remains the champion. It was the ROSE BOWL ON A LIVE TELEVISION AUDIENCE. Nothing else comes close.
