The Michigan - Ohio rivalry is really quite something, even to a non-football fan. HBO did the most interesting documentary on the subject last year.

Syracuse vs. Georgetown

I heard Michigan’s core focus in sports is simply to beat Ohio State.

Michigan vs. Ohio State … Best rivalry in sports

UNC vs Duke, there is no disputing it.

Michigan vs Ohio State is good, but you can’t beat UNC vs Duke simply because of the geographic proximity of both schools. UNC and Duke are only 8 miles apart and hate each other with a passion that is downright frightening at times.

Stanford vs. Berkeley in academics, research and sports.

Duke and UNC

THE Rivalry is Lafayette-Lehigh (notice I put the school that has won MORE times first!)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rivalry_(Lehigh–Lafayette)

“I heard Michigan’s core focus in sports is simply to beat Ohio State.”

The exact opposite is true. TUOS knows the only area it can compete with Michigan is on the football field, hence their obsession.

OSU v. Michigan is the ONLY rivalry.

Still, no competition in academics, thus why my support as an Ohioan goes to the Maize and Blue :)

That is exactly why it isn’t the best rivalry. :)

Erm, the basketball court? Hell, Michigan chokes so much in hockey, I wouldn’t be surprised if tOSU beat them, as bad as they are.

which makes me wonder if academically speaking UNC and Duke are ranked the same on USNWR or for that matter Aurburn and Bama.

The fact we are on the third page now and nobody has mentioned Florida-Florida State is conclusive proof that these boards are disfunctional.

Duke-UNC personally isn’t really that exciting to watch compared to Texas-Oklahoma, USC-UCLA, Michigan-OSU, etc…

Duke and UNC both suck.

Army-Navy would be good except Navy just pwns Army’s ass every year. It’s not even remotely funny sob

You’re joking, right?

It isn’t a football rivalry (UNC always own Duke in football), but as far as basketball goes you won’t find a more exciting game in the country than UNC-Duke.

At what, exactly?

UF vs. FSU not mentioned here? Maybe it’s because academically they are ranked >50 spots apart on USNWR. :P

Across all sports it’s definitely UCLA/USC. 104 NCAA Titles for UCLA; 89 for USC. Stanford (97) is the only other school up there. UNC/Duke meanwhile have 35 and 10 respectively. To be fair, the basketball rivalry has usually not been close, with USC dominating the first 20 years and UCLA dominating the last 60.

Are you looking for a reason to say Hopkins is good at something? Duke and UNC were both better than Hopkins last year.

@diontechristmas: Finally someone else with an appreciation for a real sport :P

Oregon State vs. U of Oregon
(Beavers vs. Ducks)

The annual football game is called the “Civil War”.
It’s a big deal here in Oregon.
