Best Colleges for Business in CA

Here is my ranking guys:

Stanford
Cal Tech

UCB - Business Admin, Any Econ, IEOR
USC - Business Admin

UCLA - business econ/econ
UCSB - econ+accounting

UCI - biz admin / accounting minor
UCSD - econ accounting minor
CSUF, CSUN, SJSU, Cal Poly SLO - Accounting

I wouldn’t even consider anything else unless its local to where you want to work.

If you want to get into ibanking or consulting I would stick to USC and up. Good luck transfers.

LOL UCSB is definitely Lower tiered

^ It is still a step above everything else below it.

I’m not a Business major, but UCI’s Business program definitely seems to be gaining notoriety. I’d put it above UCSB’s program. And I’d put UCLA on par with USC, perhaps slightly below it - but now a whole tier lower. And UCLA’s Business program is definitely better than UCSB’s Econ program.

CalTech above Haas? Meh.

Stanford doesn’t have an undergrad business program, unless you’re strictly talking about econ. If you do mean econ, obviously it’s the top option … but again, it’s not a business program.

That considered, Caltech isn’t even in US News’ top 10 ranking for best undergrad business programs … which has 13 schools listed because of ties. Haas is tied for #2 behind Wharton and tied with MIT. Obviously these lists are all different and often subjective and use different metrics, but Haas is always near the top at Caltech isn’t even close (or included). Stanford also is never mentioned because while they have a top 3 MBA program, they don’t have an undergrad program.

Cal Poly has a strong program, but doesn’t have the reputation of a UC, and is considered a “regional university,” but it’s program is pretty good. Not sure where it ranks with everything you mentioned, but I don’t really care to guess either.

Revised:

Stanford

UCB - Business Admin, Any Econ, IEOR
USC - Business Admin

UCLA - business econ/econ
Claremont Mckenna

UCSB - econ+accounting

UCI - biz admin / accounting minor
UCSD - econ accounting minor
CSUF, CSUN, SJSU, Cal Poly SLO - Accounting

@iTransfer1 How did you determine that UCSB was higher than UCI and UCSD? I’m asking because I’m not sure which school would benefit me more if I were to get accepted to them.

@pugzandhugz can’t speak for the other two schools or the sketchy methodology here, but UCSD’s undergrad business program isn’t generally that highly ranked because it doesn’t exist. The Rady School of Management is pretty new (around twelve years old) and only offers minors for undergrads. The university’s really strong in Econ and accounting, but those aren’t traditional finance-sector fields like finance and business. That said, there are decent networking opportunities and the Undergraduate Business Network is one of the most visible clubs on campus. Also, the school of management campus can only be described as sexy af.
