(Just a PSA I figured this all out by myself and limited knowledge about IR/masters degrees/BA degrees so if I’m wrong please tell me I’m just a kid! I don’t know what I’m doing!)
Hi everyone. I am a senior, going to UW-Madison to major in International Relations next fall, with a minor in economics. I plan to work in the PNG Embassy after college. My dad is from PNG, and has many connections with ambassadors and people of power in the Embassy/dealing with PNG in general, so I’m hoping those will come in handy for internships at such. After college, I think I will need a masters degree, and my current plan is to get one in Australia/Hawaii in Pacific/Oceanic Studies. However, I don’t know whether I should get the masters degree in IR instead, or major in east asia during college? Can someone offer me guidance/inform me about the major/tell me what to do with my life?
Thanks!
Dont major in East Asian studies…it is a dead field! Really! I suggest you really look into how pointless it is…you’d be better off getting an MPA - Masters in Public Administration or a MPP–Masters in Public Policy if you want to work in an embassy coupled with some serious internships…its nice that your dad is from PNG, but don’t think that will get you a job.
