I've always believed that Cal Poly SLO was the best in industrial engineering all along, until someone told me that San Jose State University was REALLY good for industrial engineering. Is it true? Is there any other CSU that is also as good as Cal Poly or nearly as good for industrial engineering? Any insight is very much appreciated!

please help me out guys!

Both cal polys (Pomana and SLO) along with San Jose state would be good choices for undergraduate engineering. You could also consider SDSU if you wanna live in Southern California. I would visit the campuses to see which one you like best, but ranking wise, San Jose and both Cal Poly’s are up there for best CSUs for engineering.

is there any reason as to why I should pick san jose state over cal poly slo?

Ranking/teaching/cost etc wise no. Those two are ranked around the same for CSU’s in engineering so if you feel Cal Poly SLO is the best choice, than I would go with that.

There is a huge ranking difference in engineering between SLO and SJSU. SLO is #8 in the US for non phd engineering school. Its IE department is #1 in the US for undergrad non phd program.

SDSU and CP SLO are both very selective - for any engineering discipline, you’ll need 4.0+ gpa and solid test scores to get in
.
Pomona and SJSU will be easier to get into but still provide a solid education.

SJSU is the only CSU that posts their admission thresholds by major.

Pomona’s index cutoff is probably around 3700.
