Best dorms for 2015-16 freshmen?

I’ve researched all of the dorms on the NYU website, but I’d like the perspectives of actual students. Also, are the Exploration Floors worth it?

I lived in Brittany pre-renovation, and the rooms are nice and large, and the building is centrally located. Founders is also nice. Rubin sucks in every way, and the rooms in both Weinstein and Goddard are incredibly tiny. The rest fall somewhere in the middle.

Explorations floors are fun if the people on the floor make it. It does build an additional sense of community, and if there is a topic you’re interested in (and it’s in a dorm that you want to be in), go for it

@jazzcatastrophe‌ what makes Rubin so awful?

Old, no AC, small rooms, worst dining hall by far. It’s the only one of the first year dorms located in an old building that hasn’t been renovated yet.

@jazzcatastrophe How can I save money without going to Rubin? I don’t want to be crammed but I also prefer a 5 minute walk to the square. Also how are the shared rooms for 3 like in Brittany?

At least pre-reno, all the rooms in Brittany were massive, including the triples

@jazzcatastrophe‌ do you really think that paying 5k more for Brittany over Rubin is worth it for a student on a very tight budget?

Can someone explain the difference between a “shared room” and an "efficiency room? They both say they house 2-3 students.

@SoBlessed15‌ Efficiency rooms are low-cost and smaller than normal shared rooms
@tlf123098‌ if finances are really tight, just go with Rubin. One year in a less than ideal living situation is not the end of the world.

I am a freshman at NYU who lived this year in post-renovation Brittany. I can say by far that although Brittany is the most expensive, it is the best one. It is new, larger, and location is right between the two major areas of Washington Square Park and Union Square.
