best dorms?

i'm gonna request housing soon, and i haven't visited campus yet. what are the best dorms to live in? what makes them good? any advice would be great, thanks!

Yeah, that was one of my big questions. Well, there are a lot of dorms. And each of them have something that you might like. There are co-ed and ones for girls and guys only.

Now, if you want traditional, you of course look to Hess or Massey. You’re going to have community showers and traditional settings. They are both co-ed. Hess is sometimes popular due to being close to the library and the Hill. You’ll have a fast food place or two close by. However, Hess has rather small rooms. Massey has bigger rooms, but seem older. Either way, they have a high female population, apparently, despite being co-ed. Both are around some sort of cafeteria area.

If you prefer the suite style, you have more options. One mention: all suite dorms have a semi-private bathroom setup, which it basically just sharing with the room next to you(at least, I think that is what is up). I’ll start with Clement, another co-ed dorm. It is over at the corner of the campus, and closest to the Strip. Basically, closest to the city life, but really far from anything of the campus. I’ve been told it’s a big party place and you might end up staying up late just due to the noise stopping you.

Gibbs is guys only. It has a good amount of athletes in it, since that seems to be what it is made most for.

Humes is ladies only. Nothing of particular note here.

I’m pretty sure Morrill is co-ed. And SMALL. It apparently has the smallest dorms. However, it is pretty close to a tasty health food eatery and you’ll end up walking a lot of places if you live there.

North Carrick, another one for men only. I haven’t heard anything of major note about it. It’s good, near the presidential complex, where there are a ton of places to eat.

Reese Hall is another one for men. Same as N. Carrick. Weight room, study room, the norm.

South Carrick Hall, which happens to be at the top of my list, is another one for females only. There isn’t anything major about it, though. However, it is a nice size, while not the biggest. Some say it feels a bit old, but it isn’t a huge deal. Also, it is right near the Presidential Complex, which I mentioned a bit earlier. It has a lot of places to eat and is a great place to socialize at, too. It’s a popular place to be, and many others of the dorms go to the Presidential.

So, check out UT’s site and see what they have about it. Many of the rooms are furnished the same and it might depend on what the dorms are close to for you to pick. You might want co-ed or single gender, or many something more traditional. The traditional style is very popular, and it seems like the most people are dormed in those places(dormed isn’t a word, but I think I like it).

I hope that this might help you in some sort of way!

yeah this was definitely helpful! thanks so much :)

I actually created an account here just to say thanks for that. Found out I was accepted this morning and have spent today deliberating over the question of which dorm to go with.

For freshman, Morrill, North and South Carrick, Humes, and Reese are really good. Morrill’s rooms are kind of small, but definitely livable. Morrill also has a cafeteria on the second floor which is really convenient and houses almost all of the learning communities if you’re looking into joining one. Of the two tradition style dorms, I would choose Massey just because the rooms are bigger and it’s not as hectic as Hess. I personally despise Clement. The rooms are really big, but it’s really old feeling and I always think it has a funny smell.

Just my two cents.
