Best EC for college

What are some prestigious EC/recognitions for colleges? Out of these below, or any you wish to add, (in order)

Founder of a club/society/program

Class President

Top chool athlete

School Paper Editor-in-chief

Valedictorian

Misc…etc. Club President

It depends on the school, but being a Siemens or Intel finalist would be very impressive for someone interested in science to get.

"AP scholar with distinction"? (not sure)
Research with a professor at a university?

editor in chief of yearbook? student government?

truthfully, the best EC is the one(s) that you excel in...whether it be editor of newspaper, captain of the swim team, or coordinating a huge service project. i don't think there is one all around "best EC"

people should stop quantifying stuff

Random question, are you shooting for a CompSci major? (@ SourApplezz)

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't say it's "Top School Athelete". I don't think it's gonna make a huge impact...

Oh hell, I think I'm saying this because I'm the "Worse School Athelete", hey, I should write that down.

IMO, I wouldn't really care about what ECs colleges are looking for, and instead do whatever I want to do. If colleges don't like it, well, I guess I have to tell them to **** off

Oh, and I agree w/ what starryeyedgirl says.

don't choose e.c.s based on what is "the best"

do ones where you'll pursue and won't hate (otherwise you'll quit!), because they want to see dedication and commitment beyond anything else.

if you're not meant to be a president of th estudent government then don't do it.

Do what you like.

the "best" ec is the one you are most interested in. That is what colleges will recognize. If you put your heart and soul into it, if its something you are passionate about, i dont think most schools will put a price tag on what it is by speciality (with the exception of schools with heavy disposition bias, like a vocational school or a dominant engineering school)

abrandel05 is wrong. The best EC is class president.

zogoto, please tell me ur being sarcastic

Why would I be being sarcastic? Think about how much work the class president puts in. In my school, which is a REAL school unlike most of your ppls' schools, the school president has to have a meeting every day at lunch. Thats five hours of work almost per week. No other EC even comes close to that amount of work. Excalibur, if you couldn't tell I was serious when you read that, then you probably have a really bad class president.

Hahahah FUNNNNNAY!!!!!!! My school is a REAL school, and our class Pres surely does not do as much work as any athlete. Being an athlete means at least 15 hours of HARD training per week, not to mention practicing on your own. Moreover, I know PLENTY of club Presidents who do more than 5 hours of work a week...and what about people who work?

NOT TO MENTION the "best" ec isn't necessarily the one with the biggest time committment.

In summary, you're dumb if you think being Class Pres is the "best". :D

well then I don't see how ur disagreeing with abrandel. Both of you seem to agree that putting in a great amount of time into an EC is what looks good to colleges. The best EC can't be class president for ALL schools, since some class presidents are title grabbers that don't do anything. And i'm sure colleges will recognize that when they see that the class prez didn't do anything during his tenure.

it really depends on the school you want to attend and what type of person you are. they always say it's better also to have less e.c.'s and more dedication to those, then a bunch of them with an obvious lack of dedication

yea, ECs are WAY overrated. Colleges should require that an applicant describe the extent of his participation in each after listing them.

I have a question. If someone says "Why do colleges like ECs? Aren't you going there to study and not participate in their track team?" then what do you say?

And I was kidding before guys. That was sarcasm.

It's b/c they want a "lively environment" aka students who don't just kick it in their rooms and study 24/7!!!!!!!

Yeah, colleges prefer a well rounded student.

I think the best is to hold some sort of academmic type of leadership, like ed in chief of the newspaper, WHILE you're excelling at sports. Colleges love great sports players more than great minds, but oh well. I guess when the great minds go on to be brilliant later in life, the athletes get their come-uppins?
