Put this list in order of what you think looks best to a college

Editor-in-chief of school newspaper
Intel winner for research
Editor-in-chief of literary magazine
Editor-in-chief of yearbook
Soloist in chorus
Lead in the school play
Varsity sport captain
Organized a community service program

They're not my ecs I was just wondering how you would compare these

um… depends on how good different stuff is. for example, at my school, the yearbook is like #1 in new england but the literary magazine is not the best, but it could be opposite at a different school. same for the scope of a community service program, etc. not set in stone - but generally speaking i’d say

yearbook
intel
paper
lit mag
captain
community service
school play
chorus

but then again, it differs based on the level of intensity at different schools. the lead in a school play at a drama school obviously would be higher up than (for example) a soccer captain at that school or the lead in a play at a normal hs. so its all relative

Depends a lot on the college, being “Editor-in-chief” of three publications kind of makes me question the responsibilities that they entail. Are these super-coveted, sought-after positions, or did you get them just because you expressed an interest?

As someone who has been in choir for a long time, a solo doesn’t mean all that much. I’ve had a few and didn’t mention them on my apps, since they don’t really involve additional work to just being in the choir.

varsity sport captain is a pretty big responsibility. Doing varsity sports in general is very highly regarded.

At our school, a student who was far below regular Harvard standards (by A LOT) got into Harvard because he was captain of our very good football team :D

IMO:
Siemens winner
Intel winner
Varsity sport captain
Editors
Organized a community service program
Lead in the school play
Soloist in chorus

With organized a community service program potentially as high as the Intel stuff depending on what that means-- did you run a blood drive once at your school or did you start a major, on going project kind of thing…

YMMV

I’m biased about Siemens-- it’s typically the same level as Intel, but I personally hold it in higher regard, not because of my participation, but because of their methodology (only reviewing your research, not all that other info about you).
