So I’ve heard of the big ones like MITES and SAMS, but the admissions are pretty low and I want to hear other really good engineering-based summer camps. Any suggestions?
Keep in mind that most engineering-based summer camps are very competitive. Here’s a couple:
BU RISE (12%)
HSHSP (5-6%)
MITES (10%)
SAMS (13%)
RSI (hardest camp to get into by far) (near impossible to get into unless you are on an olympiad team or won some major science competition)
SSP (8-9%)
Clark Scholars (5%)
MIT Beaverworks (Depends on the program you apply to → 25%)
WTP (if you are a girl) (10%)
MOSTEC (7-8%)
COSMOS (if you are in california) (Depends on cluster and campus → 20%)
SIMR (5%)
YYGS (IDK if they have an engineering course or not) (20%)
My son did 3 great programs for engineering.
- Michigan State University for Robotics https://www.egr.msu.edu/future-engineer/programs
- Milwaukee School of Engineering. https://www.msoe.edu/academics/high-school-programs/summer-programs-at-msoe/
- Berkeley - National student leadership https://berkeley.nslcleaders.org/ This is also hosted on other great campuses like Georgia Tech and Yale to name a few. They all have scholarships and financial aid. The last was his favorite since we flew him by himself to California. Also it was more team like competition . All three he came home very excited to tell us about the program. They live in dorms so that's just kinda cool. All were well worth what we paid for them.
S19 loved the engineering camp at UMD. It is a competitive admissions process that opens in mid-February. I do not think the admissions is nearly as competitive as those listed above.
