can anyone give me a ranking of the best engineering universities in the uk?

As far as I am concerned they are Imperial, Bristol, Cambridge, Southampton, Umist, Edingburgh. You can check it out yourself by visiting Times Education Online or Guardian University Guide.

Imperial is the place.

You can see that IC is consitent in the rankings. Where's Manchester?

I think manchester is ridiculously overrated (in the UK anyway)

Machester is overrated? I always thought Manchester's IST was one of the best in the UK.

h88: Mancheser is fairly good. But i find that it is overrated - usually by the people who go there.

Yes, I did say that UMIST is good for engineering because many people are saying so. I do strongly feel Machester is TOO overated but if everybody thinks it's good, then what else should I say.
