I'm looking for a dorm for the fall, and I was wondering what the best freshman dorms are? I'm in First Year College, so I'll have to live in Tucker or Owen unless I join another village. I was looking at the Impact Leadership Village (does anyone know if many freshman join this village and is it good???) in Bowen hall as another housing option as it is suite style. Is hall style better or suite style better? Also, I've heard Tucker/Owen may be party dorms, is this true? I like having fun and all, but I am serious about school and care about my grades and I don't want to be in a dorm where there will be so much partying and noise. Any other dorm suggestions?? I'm looking to stay on campus and preferably central campus, but any suggestions would be helpful!!

My S lived in Owen as a freshman. He loved it. The high ceilings, the hardwood floors, having a sink in the room, the prime location on central campus (S was a gym rat and loved being so close to Carmichal) were all reasons to like Owen. He moved off campus after freshman year. He said he would have stayed in Owen if sophs. were allowed.

Hey zbh1001, I had the same question! I was wondering how loud/party-oriented Owen is. Can anyone share their personal experience with this residence hall?

You should check out http://housing.ncsu.edu/frequently-asked-questions it may help you!

That’s a good link - but the university’s housing page really won’t address the “party atmosphere” of dorms. My experience with my older son - not at State - is that the “freshman” dorms have their fair share of partiers. It only bothered my son when they came in loud after midnight - usually on Thursdays. (He would also be out late on Fridays and Saturdays.) But lots of kids also party late on thursdays.

Haha. S1 lived in Owen, directly across from the hall bathroom. So he heard a lot of late night door slamming and not unusual to find puke on the floor when some poor guy didn’t make it to the bathroom.
S1 did his fair share of partying too so I’m not judging. To be truthful, I think it happens in every dorm. S1 loved living in Owen and would make the same choice again. DH is a NCSU alum. He lived in Lee Hall for three years. Same stuff went on there.
