Best Freshman Professors?

Hi! I recently committed to Tulane, and was wondering if someone could recommend any good professors for typical freshman classes? Especially freshman english, a good TIDES course, calculus, etc. Also, it would be helpful to know if there's any professors to avoid. Thanks!

My guess is you won’t get much feedback on something that broad. If I could make a suggestion, work up a schedule you think you would like and then ask about those specific courses and profs. To me at least, half the fun was scouring the course list to see everything that was offered and making some choices. If you have any questions about using the online scheduler, just hit us back.

Are you going to have any AP credits to apply? Also, what is/are your area(s) of interest (if you have decided yet)?

I highly suggest looking at the class schedule online, make a list of the professors, and then go to ratemyprofessor.com and see what they have to say. There is a lot of information there on some of the more established teachers that includes among other things: student opinions, and in some cases, information about tests, papers, homework or no homework, etc. It is pretty useful information, but you have to take some of it with a grain of salt because some of the reviews are obviously students venting if they did poorly. My son used the information there to help plan his freshman schedule and found that the overall opinions turned out to be spot on in most cases.

In the case of freshman English, there are some teachers who use the same materials each semester in their writing classes and the reviews may give you some indication of whether or not the readings they typically assign are ones that interest you or totally don’t, so that may be helpful in choosing.
