Also for my case, either the first level Spanish class, or the second. Also, anyone have any advice on taking Arabic at tulane? I heard itsnan upcoming language, just like Chinese was ten years ago. I'm thinking about doing pre law at tulane and I also need some advice from anyone currently at tulane or with experience about their classes.

Oh yeah, can students start registering for classes on Gibson portal at 12 AM on July 1? Or is it later on that day?

Don’t worry about finding an easy TIDES class. They’re all easy. Take what interests you.

Is there anything specific you’d like to know about Arabic? I have a friend I can ask if you have any specific questions.

I don’t know about when you can first start registering. I would email an adviser about that.

I mean it says on July 1, I was just wondering if the registering could start at 12 AM. also I was just curious about Arabic because I think a lot jobs will be morelikely to hire you if you are adept at speaking Arabic, instead if say Spanish. So ask your friend if it has helped with getting more jobs or internships.

If you’re looking for any sort of job working for the government, military, or DoD, arabic would absolutely be a valuable asset over something like spanish. If you’re not looking for anything like that, I would just take spanish.

I’m not 100% sure on this, but when you log in to gibson, it should say on the front page when you are allowed to start registering for classes. For us, during the school year, it says something like “your registration time ticket is scheduled to begin on 7/1 at 3:00 PM” or something similar

Thanks ill check gibson - any other advice about whether or not to take arabic?

I’ve heard good things about Arabic from my friend. It’s not a walk in the park, however, but it’s certainly not the hardest language Tulane offers. As for utility, it’s incredibly useful!! ;]

what is the hardest language tulane offers?

My D signed up for Mandarin Chinese. Don’t know if it is hard, i.e. phonics, but the alphabet sure looks tough! How long does it take to write a sentence with all those intricate characters?

I’m just going to be honest and say that Chinese will probably be a struggle for your D. A lot of Asians (most of whom KNOW Chinese) are always able to get into the 100 level class. It makes it really hard for everyone else to compete with them and make A’s. I’m not saying that doing well is impossible, just that it might take some extra effort over something like Spanish or French.

Thanks. But, at $50K a year, I would like to get my money’s worth to educate my daughter, so being a business major, she and I agree that Mandarin is the most useful language to take. Hopefully, she will get into a study group with a lot of Asians! lol.

Haha! I’m Asian, actually Chinese, going to Tulane majoring in Business and Premed. And writing a sentence in Chinese isn’t all that hard. 就像是你现在看到的这句话,我只花了10秒钟打出来!

i logged onto gibson today and it still says “Your registration time-ticket for 2011 Fall will start on 06/01/2011 at 12:00 AM” aka my orientation date. ughh i thought we were supposed to be able to register again today, i’m trying to be one of the first ones on so i can have a greater choice of classes

Arent all the orientation dates already completed? and june 1st? that already happened

All the orientation dates are completed, and if you went to a specific orientation, you were able to register (change/add/drop classes) for the first 24 hours after you went home. Then, in order to be fair to the kids who didn’t go to orientation, they shut all of our accounts down.

Today will be for the kids who didn’t register already. On July 2nd (I’m pretty sure), everyone will be able to register again, regardless of whether or not you went to orientation.

Guhengshuo–Translation please!
