Anybody have any idea what are the most interesting (or easiest) classes for Gen Ed Cat 4 and 6???? I just see all these science classes for 4 and lose all hope and confidence; I'm not much of a science person.

Any advice for these categories? Thanks!

Note that I don’t have any experience with any of these classes.

The GE cat. 4 classes look like they’re all relatively basic science courses. They don’t even have any pre-requisites. If you really want to avoid science, try for one of the linguistics courses (LING) or Chem 203, “This course is designed primarily for non-science majors”. There’s also a philosophy course (PHIL).

With GE cat. 6, you may want to think about choosing a course that also fulfills the diversity requirement. If it has an “m” at the end of the course name, like GEOG 100gm, then it takes care of both its GE category and diversity. There’s some other diversity requirement classes in other categories if you don’t like any of the GE cat. 6 ones. I’m pretty sure that these kinds of classes fill up quicker than normal since they have this extra benefit. With that in mind, choose multiple you’re interested in before registration.

don’t take chem 203 it is very heavy science material

Physics or Astronomy! If you can take either with Prof. Werner Dappen (who is the chair of the department of Physics and Astronomy) you will have one of the most enjoyable class experiences in the GE program. I am a liberal arts major, not necessarily a “science” person - but I took GE Physics (I think its called “The Physical World” or something), and there was minimal math - only stuff you should have learned in basic high school - the lectures were comprehensible, and the weekly homework could be completed while reading the chapter each week. It is designed 100% for “non-science background” people. If you like a class with predictable structure, and lots of opportunities to earn grade credit toward an A (meaning there is lots of “best 4 of 5 homeworks” situations), then I would recommend either. I went back and took Astronomy as an elective because Professor Dappen was such a good, personable professor.

Anybody have anything to say about Geology 150 and/or American Studies 101? How are they?

Are the GE cat IV courses (Science and its significance) listed under one caption somewhere?
