Which Honors dorm is the best in your opinion and why?

There are different styles.
Firstly, there’s different living arrangements (suite, room with a floor bath, # of roommates, whether the floor is all guys/all girls, mixed, etc.–you get to specify which you prefer)
Then there’s also location–north, south, west. All totally different living arrangements.
You can’t really say which is “best,” it all depends on what you want. And, since you get to choose, it should fit you pretty well.

That being said, the big things are: south campus is generally more sociable, and they mostly have floor baths and one roommate. North campus is mostly suites with 3 other roommates and one bedroom/one study area/one bath for the 4 roommates. West campus is the towers, which are 8-person clusters (kind of a unique set-up).
North campus is generally very quiet. South is very sociable. Not sure about West, except that’s it’s the farthest walk to your classes.

What all has to be done to select where you want to live? Are there special forms for honors housing?

After you’re accepted, you’ll get information on housing contracts and stuff. If you’re in honors, you’ll have the option to choose honors housing. The packet will include information on all the possible living arrangements.

I lived in Lincoln my freshman year (the honors dorm on west), and had I not moved off campus, I would have lived there again. The room arrangement seems to maximize the amount of space that is yours, as the rooms are arranged in suites of four rooms and a bathroom.

Each person shares a bedroom and a separate study space with 1-3 roommates, and a large bathroom and common room with 7-9 other people. Freshman seem to have even odds of being placed in a double, with one other roommate, or a quad, with three roommates. Being in a quad means having half as much space in the bedroom and study space space, but each person still had a desk, a bed, some storage space, and a closet.

I liked living there because having the shared common rooms gave people a place to hang out, and so it was easy to meet people. If I hadn’t liked my roommate, there were eight other people in my suite to be friends with.

The walk to classes is probably a few minutes longer than from other dorms, depending on the classroom, but it was never an inconvenience.

Whats the honors housing on north like? I’m a business major and that would be the shortest walk to my classes.

My DS lives in North and likes it a lot. He is a business/International relations major. He says that he can go to South and party but then return to North for studying and some quiet. He said that he doesn’t think it is as quiet as some people think. He found he likes the two room layout even if it is with 4 people because there is always someone to do things with and you can hang out in one room and sleep in the other. He also likes being so close to High Street because you can run and grab something to eat.

He says he has not found it too far from his classes.

How does honors work? Is it a floor or what?

And how much time do you spend with honors kids compared to the rest of the student population?

@altfb11 Honors for freshmen basically consists of you living with in an honors dorm (optional) and taking a couple honors classes through the year. Honors housing isn’t anything special, except that your roommates will be in honors too. I lived in Taylor my freshmen year, and my floor was a mix of honors students (mostly freshman/sophomores) and transfer students. Once you get out of your dorm there really aren’t any divisions between honors vs non-honors students besides in specific classes or degree programs.

I don’t know whether or not I’m attending OSU, but if I do, I want honors dorms. I got a letter saying that I have to pay the enrollment fee before requesting dorms. I won’t be able to do that until at least April 1. Will I be shut out of honors dorms if I send in my acceptance enrollment fee that late?

Why wouldn’t you be able to do that until april?

Because I have applied to other colleges and I won’t hear back until April 1 for some of them.

From what I was told, it is just a non refundable deposit, not binding. You can check on that to be sure but if that is true you should send in your deposit. I’m still waiting on other schools too but financially OSU is the most probable

Is it possible to get a double in taylor tower?

Not sure but i think that’s where I’ll end up

yay! maybe we’ll see eachother or be roommates

Carmelita

Rarely freshmen get doubles in Taylor according to my DS. He did say a few have it but it is very rare. By the way they redid the North Commons and my DS says the food is much better with more variety.

thanks for letting me know! that sounds good to me!

Could be lol. Are you a business or engineering major? I feel like that’s probably what everyone will be there.
