What are the honors dorms an osu like? Which residence halls are considered “honors” dorms. Is living in the honors dorms going to be any fun, I’m not looking for crazy parties but I want to have fun. My brother lived on south campus and loved it, and I don’t want to miss out on fun stuff happening there. What are your thoughts?

^^ That provides most of information you’re looking for. Honors dorms are Taylor Tower on North campus, Bradley and Siebert Hall on South, and Lincoln House on West.

I lived in Lincoln for my freshman year, and found it to be a lot of fun. Most people make a lot of their initial friends from the people in their dorm, and so I appreciated the opportunity to quickly make friends with other smart people. Some honors dorm people do fit the stereotype of all work and no play- but I found that very few did. Most of the people on my floor had fairly serious majors, with a lot of work, so during the weekday it tended to be quiet, but on the weekends most of us partied and went out.

I have two friends who were RAs for some of the freshman dorms on South- and I’m glad I didn’t live there. A lot more noise and weekday drinking, from the stories I’ve heard. A lot of people really love that atmosphere, and it can be more fun, but it can also be distracting and annoying at times.

It seems like everyone adjusts to the dorm they are assigned, and they end up liking it, but I would still recommend an honors dorm over others.

Also, the location of your dorm doesn’t matter much freshman year, since most of your classes will be GECs, and thus be all over campus. In general, South has better eating options, I think, West is closest to the RPAC, and North is closest to the engineering and business classrooms.

I heard Siebert was closed until 2013. True? what does that mean (if anything) in terms of Honors housing?

this exchange was about “fun,” but any other thoughts about what to consider in selecting an honors dorm? I heard the food up north wan’t very good - but that the rooms in Taylor are better.

Are you really all over campus your freshman year? I’d have thought most classes would be right around the quad. My son will be majoring in Psych (which may not make a difference).

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I hadn’t heard that about Siebert, but I’m not a particularly reliable source of information on dorms anymore- I’ve lived off-campus for two years.

Your son will probably have lots of classes in different buildings- I had psychology in a computer science building, and math in a psychology building- but campus starts to feel smaller after a few weeks, and most don’t mind it at all. GECs tend to be scheduled into fairly random buildings, but nearly all of the classroom buildings are located close to each other, to the north of the oval (the quad).

I learned to eat after or before my classes, which broadened where I was eating on a daily basis. Scheduling an hour lunch break between classes is a good idea.

If any thoughts are appreciated- I have a few friends majoring in Psychology, and most of them have been able to pursue a second major and still plan to graduate on time. This would be great for any student majoring in psych and not sure about extensive grad school, since the second major could be in something more technical or employable.

Thanks a lot Maybell.
